@erik's activity:

Attention all Velominati. The Tour VSP is going on line and it should be a good one. Sure, between Froomy and Bertie a person could hedge their bets but Moviestar is all in for Valverde, BMC for TeeJay, Astana for the Shark and Garmin is finally committing to a team leader in Talansky. Some other teams (ahem…Trek Factory Racing for one) have...

  1. Crazy, sure. But genius if I’m write. The only chance I have in this VSP is a do or die breakaway. VSP PICKS: 1. Chris Horner 2. Alejandro Valverde 3. Alberto Contador 4. Andrew Talansky 5. Chris Froome »

The Velominati Super Prestige is a season-long competition wherein readers will be submitting their predictions for the top five finishers of each qualifying race.  In order to qualify, your picks via the VSP Picks form above the posts section of the VSP Event article pertaining to the race in question by the time the countdown clock goes to zero...

  1. Tech troubles?  I can’t post anything in either Giro Rosa or TDF VSP.  Is it me?  I also see no posts. Help! »

Why are women’s races run concurrently with men’s races? I would get it if it was the women’s Tour de France, but I don’t get it when it is the women’s Giro in July. Since the Tour de Swiss there has been a lack of stage racing (in my TV watching schedule) and seemingly a perfect time to present a women’s stage r...

  1. Horner for the win. Mark this date.  I said he’d win the Vuelta.  Mind you, I got the rest of the top 5 all wrong. »

The Tour de Suisse can be everyone’s warm-up for the Tour de France, including all you VSP dreamers. The big show seems to be the Critérium de Dauphanié this year, as far as Tour de France contenders go but the Tour de Suisse still has some big guns showing up. Twiggo is here, not for a Tour warm up, unless people are worried about Richie P...

  1. This one could get very interesting.  There is an ITT which will suit Martin. But there are several days in the mountains around that.  Anyone know if Martin can hang for a day or two in the mountains? »

  2. More racing to distract me from the rest of this world. »

  3. VSP PICKS: 1. Wiggins 2. Cadel Evans 3. Tom Danielson 4. Rui Costa 5. Kreuziger »

For the simple reason that the Cobbled and Ardennes Classics are behind us, I have not alternative but to get back on my soap box about the Giro being the best of the three Grand Tours. Well, usually, at least. Last year’s race sucked the big one (even if it was supremely Rule #9), but for the most part it is the race that is the most c...

  1. @VeloVita Quintana is amazing.  I bet Movistar will regret their choice to back Valverde for le Tour. »

  2. No country for old men.  Italy, that is.  I will miss Cadel Evans. »

  3. Well shoot. Maybe I should have done rest day swaps.  Cadel can still pull this out.  Uran has never had the leadership role and it isn’t like OPQS has had many grand tour plans lately…. other than Levi Leipheimer. »

  4. 10 points to swap! 10 points! Forget it.  That would be 20 points down no matter what.  I’m playing my cards as dealt.  Won’t win. But I ride with pride. »

  5. @Buck Rogers I don’t really expect him to survive the weekend, but he is making hay while the sun shines (in the rain, so to speak). »

  6. Is it just me, or does anyone else have a new favorite rider in the maglia rosa, Matthews.  In pink, wins a stage, 4th in today’s sprint.  He is everywhere. »

  7. 2 out of 5 picks are DNF.  This is going well. »

  8. Swap or not? Numerically, the odds are against me with a swap.  I lose five to potentially gain 7. Play what you came with. No swap. »

  9. Wow. This is a tough one.  I had to leave Quintana out. I am sure to regret it for my VSP. But then, I am sure to regret most of my choices. Monfort is a good dark horse top 5. VSP PICKS: 1. Good Cadel 2. Purito 3. Rigoberto Urán 4. Dan Martin 5. Maxime… »

The Amstel Gold Race, 251 km from Maastricht to Valkenburg, the hard way. There appears to be no flat sections longer than ten meters. There are thirty-four mean little climbs to ruin the legs. We have moved on from the real Spring Classics. There is no rest in this VSP; The Ronde and Roubaix were amazing but we must continue. Legs that are smoked...

  2. ‘Cause why the hell not Thomas Dekker? And I’d like Phil Gilbert (pronounced Fill Gill-bert) to prove me wrong. VSP PICKS: 1. Purito 2. Nibali 3. Valverde 4. Voeckler 5. Thomas Dekker »

It has been a brutal week for us Keepers, having decided not to hold a Keepers Tour this year. Watching the action from half a world away has been almost too much for us to bear, and I know most of the participants from last year must be feeling similarly. On Sunday, we would be escorted by our friends and guides, William and Alex of Pavé Cycling...

Het Volk (it will always be Het Volk to me) and now the Strade Bianche may well mark the sentimental beginning to the season, but those are specialized, pre-season races that appeal mostly to riders who are preparing for bigger objectives later in the year, such as the Cobbled or Ardennes Classics. Same goes for Tirreno Adriatico and Paris-Nice; t...

We’re not really supposed to have favorites, but everyone does. Just ask your parents. So while I’m not supposed to have a favorite, I do, and its Rule #9.Bad weather immediately separates the wheat from the chaff, and so the weekend warriors stay indoors and leave the roads to the devout. I talk most often about riding in the rain, wi...

  2. Not saying I am riding in -5 degree F weather, but if I was, would there be a lexicon entry for that? »

Cycling is a mighty sport with a rich and complex history. Every company, racer, piece of kit, and component has a legend, a story behind it; in many cases it also has a personal and nostalgic connection to our lives.  While this particular sport is steeped in tradition, it is also fiercely modern, a fact that serves only to deepen its complexity...

Water is an asshole, at least when it comes to bicycles. So is wind, now that I think of it; I don’t love it, unless its at my back, but that rarely seems to happen even on out-and-back routes. Fire’s not winning any prizes either, unless you’re talking about the hunk-a-hunka burnin’ V. Even le soleil isn’t scoring po...
