Brad Wiggins is sitting at home, watching his team implode at a Tour de France he was not invited to.What’s on his mind? An attempt at the Hour Record, that’s what. Now that the UCI has allowed riders to mount a conventional (track) time trial machine in their efforts and the likes of Boardman, Obree, Moser, Rominger, and Indurain all...

  1. @Owen We should be able to make all your dreams come true. @Mike_P Once Google gets Wifi at the top of the Big H, we should be able to pull it off – not in immediate succession, but at least in series. @therealpeel Fair point, but innovation is… »

Attention all Velominati. The Tour VSP is going on line and it should be a good one. Sure, between Froomy and Bertie a person could hedge their bets but Moviestar is all in for Valverde, BMC for TeeJay, Astana for the Shark and Garmin is finally committing to a team leader in Talansky. Some other teams (ahem…Trek Factory Racing for one) have...

@frank's posts:

  1. @KW Froome was bad luck, Contador made a mistake trying to pass a rider at great speed with one hand in his pocket and the other on a handlebar. His own fault he was out, that’s just pure racing. Froome’s accident(s) was racing too, but that was a bit m… »

  2. @wiscot I agree on all counts here. I’d also like to point out that I hated Contador’s Giro win mostly because I never liked him as a rider. I also didn’t like Nibble’s Giro win – it felt boring. But somehow, I’m loving this win of his even though it’… »

The Whale Shark is the biggest nonmammalian vertebrate* on the planet, rivaling the dinosaurs for size. How do you feed yourself when you’re that huge without loading up on carbs all the time? Easy, you swim around with your mouth wide open for 22 hours a day and hope enough food swims in there to take the edge off the hunger pangs. 2. @tessar Inhaling Wasps is more V-Face than it is a breathing technique. »

  3. @Puffy Spit and phlegm is the body’s reaction to exposure to The V. Very pro to drool on yourself, spit on yourself, snot on yourself…even blowing spit bubbles like Gallopin’ Tony on Stage 10. »

  4. @scaler911 Good to see you back here. My favorite soul crushing move is to take a few deep breaths on the sly, then drop back (or pull up) alongside the rider and ask them a few questions or ask if they have been noticing the stunning views. If you can… »

  5. @VeloJello No, creepy twats wink. I don’t ever want to see that photo or – even worse – the fucking animated gif of him doing that ever again. »

  1. @Mike_P Gutted not to do it again this year, but I’ve got a plan to do it on the anniversary of Merckx’s ride this October. »

  2. @Deakus All this talk of not wanting to tow people to the line, and cobbles being too hard when they’re wet…for fucks sake. It’s that awful fucking kit Trek is wearing, it’s impossible to have morale wearing something like that. »

  3. @Ccos That’s a Renault Gitane, so it would have been a bike for an attempt some time in the early to mid 80′s. I’m guessing ’84. @anhtony The point is that it is an ITT, so the gear should be allowed. In fact, I hope the rules get relaxed enough th… »

  4. @ChrisO I wish we could get the fucking book outside the UK so I could read it and make the call. I’ve heard excellent things but can’t get my hands on the bloody thing. »

  5. @ChrisO Just goes to show how clueless the UCI was (is?) about their own sport, thinking the innovation in the Hour was killing the spirit of it. Of course, that’s also the attitude Desgrange had during his reign in the Tour, but overall, when innovat… »

  1. @wiscot I’m amazed to see him climbing so well. Why are these big guys getting over mountains again? Is it because the bunch is cleaner and the climbers not as as astronomical or is it because the big boys are juiced? I prefer option A. »

  2. @wiscot @Ccos Between these two posts, the internet has peaked. All downhill from here folks. @Ron Dutch flags, lions of flanders flags, v-cog flags, v-lion flags… @wiscot Don’t get me started on frame sizing, mate. »

  3. @wiscot I’d love to see him targeting a race like Liege; I realize its been completely taken over by the specialists like every other event in the sport has been the last 10 years or so, but a rider like him should be able to make a cheeky move from far… »

  2. Did Mick really take a fucking bow? Nice ride though, and fireworks on the last climb! I’m starting to think Pinot is a strong candidate for the Rule #5 Award; doesn’t seem so terrified on the descents anymore! »

  2. @frank Absolutely! He was an early idol of mine, and in fact it took me until about 5 years ago to get rid of the body flop in my style which I had adopted early on because he looked so cool doing that. »

  3. @PBo Yes, I loves me a white sock but I like black ones too and wear them quite a bit. »
