  1. @minion Very difficult task to ride 2 abreast at 16kph without saying a single word. We had a ride of silence last week. I am on a much more technical road now of being watchful of other riders — watching their demeanor. Trying to nourish a better attitu… »

The Ride. It is the cathedral of our sport, where we worship at the altar of the Man with the Hammer. It is the end to our means. Indeed, The Bike may be the central tool to our sport, but to turn the pedals is to experience the sensation of freedom, of flight. It is all for The Ride. The world is overflowing with small, twisty roads that capture ou...

  2. This recent post from a level 4 (shit) has hit me at the worst time. Cyclist Edwin Hudson was caught in a recent crash (group ride) this past week and died that evening from head trauma. “Superior” sensed riders have created havoc with dodgy efforts to “t… »

The mighty VSP generator has been switched on once again. The mil-spec hydraulic fluid has been changed since the Giro. A new power take-off belt has also been installed. And the punch card reader has been refurbished.Broome and Berti are already riding the Critérium du Dauphiné. The top contenders prefer the Dauphiné for the decent recovery all...

Addiction is typically defined as a bad thing. Addiction to drugs, to alcohol, sex or even work is usually portrayed as a condition to be battled, to overcome. The same sources may recommend a strict regime of regular exercise and healthy living as the perfect antidote to the bad addictions that befall an overwhelming majority of the general popul...

  1. @Sandy154 We need a break. Here is a little relief. You remind me of this guy — Lawrence. “I don’t swim. I’m not that strong… swimmer.” »

  3. @Sandy154 A completely genuine tone — “You’re very special Sandy154. You are loved.” Assuming you’re a cyclist? Always remember — “La gloriosa strada!” »

  4. Missed some earlier drama. Good. No addiction . No addict. We aren’t users? We “love” cycling like we “love” our families — or we “love” our work. There is no addiction to my wife. I love her always and that has more permanence — it’s absolute. I know t… »

Bicycles and automobiles- can’t we all just get along? @Kah writes about this universal (do aliens have this issue also?) problem of us co-existing with humans in cars. We all drive cars too and have cursed the occasional cyclists for some good reason. Cars are our greatest threat. We can crawl away from our own bicycle crashes, thanks very m...

The Velominati site has drawn out many interesting, talented people these last few years, from frame builders to custom V-bar plug makers. We all know @pedale.forchetta as a Moots riding, bidon cage disdaining Italian cyclist. What’s not to love already… and generous too? From the beginning he has been sharing his photos with us all:...

  1. The Cannibal Velo Club Trustees met recently over frosty mugs to plan a joint Velominati-Cannibal Spring Cogal here in Connecticut.

    Proposed details:

    • Date: Sunday May 19th (shrewdly missing both the Mother’s Day and Memorial Day weekends).
    • Accommodations: I’m sure that among the Cannibals, we can host most or all of the visiting Velominati/hoti. Bed & Breakfast venues are also available nearby. A Saturday Dinner/BBQ would be great for those who arrive the day before the ride.
    • Route: about 130km, about 5k climbing! That’s a lot of climbing FFS.  A mix of short, tough climbs, endless rollers, and scenic beauty in both rural and coastal areas.

We can figure out other details, mid-ride chow, timing, etc. as the date nears. In the meantime, please share your thoughts and suggestions.

While all evidence points to the contrary, the 20th century’s greatest twatwaffle LE Gunderson may have got something at least half right after all. Of course it’s about the bike, otherwise we’d be runners. But there are other factors that contribute to what makes us Cyclists which can often be overlooked completely. Not the cloth...

My wife and I live in subtropical Maui. The Bike. It is the central tool in pursuit of our craft. A Velominatus meticulously maintains their bicycles and adorns them with the essential, yet minimal, accoutrement. The Rules specify the principles of good taste in configuration and setup of our machines, but within those principles lies almost infinite room for personal taste. It seems in s...

Rule #31 was conceived out of necessity, aesthetics and plain good taste.  Seeing an oversized saddle bag hanging limply by velcro under a Flite, Arione or Regal just isn’t right.  Frame pumps, while they undoubtedly do the finest job of inflating a tube, add nothing but bulk and clutter to the lines of a frame (and aren’t compatibl...
