Velominatus: Buck Rogers

Order: Guest Contributor

Started road racing in 1987 in VT. Raced through college at UVM and then fell away from the true path and started running. Have been back now for about five years. Currently riding a 2007 Eddy Merkcx Premium SL with 2009 Dura-Ace STI groupo, Mavic Premium SL wheelset, Selle San Marco saddle and Cinelli stem and handlebars, a dream of a bike for me. Recently acquired a 1992 Team Motorola Eddy Merckx with all circa 1992 componentry. she has quickly become Bike #2. Also have a Lemond Poprad CX for bike #3. Still looking for bike #4 (i.e. n+1).

It doesn’t take a genius to see what’s going on here. Rule #5, Rule #9, Rule #10; every rider in this frame Looks Fantastic (most other Rules). The riders are in short sleeves and shorts while the public apparently has scavenged materials from rubbish bins and the local grain elevator in a very visually unpleasant effort to keep war...

  2. @davidlhill I wear a cap under my helmet at all times and not just b/c I am going quite bald.  Actually, that is the main reason but I also love the way it looks.  And ChrisO:  I’m not biting on your proffered helmet debate! »

  3. @Pedale.Forchetta Good Lord, that photo is soooooo clear that it looks like Cuddles is coming right out of my screen.  Great shot not only of a perfect cap wearing instance but also just a great shot in general. »

One of the things that strikes me most about the English is they don’t appear to have developed any sort of “inner dialog”. 1. @Markp Unless you are RDV, Le Blaireau or PhilGil it has to be down in my opinion.  O/w you like like a tosser.  This is, of course, when wearing it without a helmet.  If you can pull off a brim up cum helmet, then you’re pro.  Never seems to work for me,… »

  1. Any Questions?

Look Folks, on 18JUN2015 a bunch of us are going to head out from Portland, Maine at V:0V in the “A.M.” and ride all fucking day long to Burlington, Vermont, probably arriving near-to-after dark.

This is a Redux of the 200-on-100 that we rolled in June 2012 which was one of the most physically challenging and mentally tough things that I have ever done in my life. Brutally awesome and I am feeling the need to ride something EPIC this next year.

As of right now this is a get your own ass to Portland and ride completely-bloody-committed because there is no support for this puppy but the Two Massive Guns of Steel that you see when you look down every day. That is unless, of course, you are too fat to see them when you look down. In that case you have one of two choices: Either lose that gut or don’t show up because this is a compete DROP ride. No way that one can wait for someone else on a ride of this magnitude.

I am planning on showing up with a few fellow V members that I know are of a similar ability level. We are planning on staying together for at least the first 150 to 200 k’s. If you want to make similar arrangements, that’s cool, but do not plan on everyone singing kumbaya and waiting for your sorry ass if you cannot hold the line. Not being cruel here but being realistic. On the 200-on-100 we all started together and broke into MANY sub-groups and never saw each other for the entire 12 to 15 hours.

For the route we will be riding the reverse of the 200(Not)-on-100 that T. King/Johnson and Kelly did in 2012.

So, dust off your rollers, break out the winter parka, stop making NancyBoy excuses and channel your inner Leonard Smalls because the training for this fucker started yesterday!

The Bike. It is the central tool in pursuit of our craft. A Velominatus meticulously maintains their bicycles and adorns them with the essential, yet minimal, accoutrement. The Rules specify the principles of good taste in configuration and setup of our machines, but within those principles lies almost infinite room for personal taste. It seems in s...
