42 year old father of three living in Cambridgeshire and working in London. I've always been into bikes but it wasn't until 2011 that I got my first road bike. Childhood and early teens were all about BMX in Hong Kong, Late 20's to mid thirties were the wilderness years, Got back into riding bikes when I borrowed a mates MTB for a weekend and ended up a fully fledged DHer but there are no hills round here so road bikes have taken over although I'm still but a novice without many miles in my legs. My wife travels with work a lot so much of my mid week riding is on the rollers and the kid's sporting interests tend to clash with the local club rides. I've also been indulging in a spot of Rule 12: 2011 Cannondale CAAD8 105, 2006 Cannondale Prophet, ???? Redline Flight Pro (Standing around watching the kids ripping up the BMX track gets a bit dull so I'm building it up from ebay parts) Had a 2007 Marin Quake as well but sold that to fund my attendance at KT13

@Chris's activity:

In most situations, silence is an ominous thing that signals impending doom. Having never been in any danger myself, I base this largely on my experience watching box-office movies. As a general rule, I use Hollywood as the principal source of information on all subjects as they relate to doom and politics, principally because I’m loath t...

@Chris's posts:

  1. @Ron The local club rides tend to have a tea and cake stop midway round which can be as  long as forty minutes. Like you my legs tend to think that they’re done for the day if they’ve had much more than five minutes. It hurts but getting back on the fro… »

  2. @Dr C They do mellow slightly with age and they’re good value for money. I think our glorious leader has a set on a rain bike so they can’t be that bad. »

  3. @Dr C Great minds think alike… Pro 2s are great hubs, keep it. I’m pretty sure that the Principle of Silence does not apply to hooning around in the woods and I can’t think of anything else you’d be doing on a mountain bike with the exception of rac… »

  4. @Bespoke A true Velominati would not have a problem with such hubs. Since the ratchets can only be heard when freewheeling, any sound is either a sign of Anti-V or an an indication of whether or not Rule #23 is being observed. »

  5. That’s disco corner. The lady in the powder blue slacks had meant to pull her top up but the speed of Merckx caught her out. »

  6. Strong work, Frank. I had a rare outing with my local club last Sunday, got in the wrong group and found myself riding with a bunch of halfwheeling incompetents so to stay safe I spent a most of the ride on the front or at second wheel. On the way back t… »

  7. @xced They had to find something to do with all the false Wiggo ‘burns now that he’s wimped out of public favour. »

Bicycles and automobiles- can’t we all just get along? @Kah writes about this universal (do aliens have this issue also?) problem of us co-existing with humans in cars. We all drive cars too and have cursed the occasional cyclists for some good reason. Cars are our greatest threat. We can crawl away from our own bicycle crashes, thanks very m...

@Chris's posts:

  1. @snoov It would seem that Emma Way is having a bad day. If the twattersphere is to be trusted it would appear that not only have the police been informed but they’ve requested that she pops in for a chat. It also looks as though she’s been tracked down… »

  2. @Ron Rapha is exempt from the YJA stigma. It offers Chartreuse instead. It’s surprising how much reflective trim there is on kit. You’d struggle not to see this lot and not a YJA in sight. »

  3. @ChrisO Spot on. Unless visibility is poor, an alert driver will spot a cyclist regardless of the colour of kit. If the visibility is poor a truly bright flashing light (angled properly) will do far more to make you visibly than a YJA especially when you … »

Twiggo is dreaming of a Giro-Tour double. He has sent out mixed messages about his Tour ambitions. Will he use the Giro as the ultimate Tour preparation or will be burn all his matches in May and hope he can find another pack for July? He has abandoned his successful 2012 Tour run-up strategy of winning every stage race he entered the previous spri...

@Chris's posts:

  1. @xyxax Is that a euphemism for “It’s becoming common knowledge that I frequent the public conveniences in the park near the house of commons”. »

  2. @Buck Rogers If only it was performance enhancing, I’ve had to work from home a few days this week which predictably ends up with me getting bored and eating all the unhealthy snacky things. More a Schelck/Contrador affair than Pharmstrong or Riccardo Ric… »

  3. @Buck Rogers Sleep is vastly overrated. Anyway, I’ve peed in a couple of bottles, labeled them Wiggins and Hesjedal ant popped them into the post to fat Pat and little Heiny. There’s bound to be enough shit in my system at the moment that they’ll both g… »

  4. Hardly a surprise but Wiggo has pulled the plug. Maybe it’ll stop raining and dry up now. »

  5. That felt slightly funereal, the amount of time time they gave to footage of Wiggo being brought in by his team rather than replays of Cav making everyone else look slow. »

  6. @Buck Rogers Apparently Duran Duran and Crowded House are with nibbles, mis communication from Race Radio Ga Ga I think. »

  7. @Buck Rogers @strathlubnaig If the reports of him having a chest infection are true it wouldn’t be a surprise if he did pull out tonight. Might be lacking in character but riding without oxygen is a bit of a bitch and he won’t get better if the weather ca… »

@Chris's posts:

  1. @Bespoke To be fair, I think Wiggins is at the extreme end of the lanky cyclist spectrum but I don’t think it’s anything new as far as his road career is concerned. Bear in mind that these are early season (Roubaix) rather than at the back end of a … »

  2. @ped Jeez, if we’re going to get all scientific about nutrition, say goodbye to dull… »

  3. @Chris Hnrr, hnrr, he said but. »

  4. @Bespoke Er no, but do feel free to carry on picking out words that look like their meaning might be bottom related. »

We close out the 6 Days of the Giro with our sixth and final installment.A body at rest, stays at rest. A body in motion, stays in motion. Things get a bit more ambiguous when it comes to a body on a bicycle tearing down a twisty mountain descent at speed, particularly in the rain. But it is here, on the boundary between clarity and ambiguity, wher...
