Lifetime devotee to the Brotherhood of the Wheel. Breaking Away is the major influence of my life..have been a cyclist since my Dad and I saw the movie in the summer of '79. Started racing in 88, still do to this day, and have been a shop bike mechanic since 1991.

@Haldy's activity:

Why are women’s races run concurrently with men’s races? I would get it if it was the women’s Tour de France, but I don’t get it when it is the women’s Giro in July. Since the Tour de Swiss there has been a lack of stage racing (in my TV watching schedule) and seemingly a perfect time to present a women’s stage r...

Attention all Velominati. The Tour VSP is going on line and it should be a good one. Sure, between Froomy and Bertie a person could hedge their bets but Moviestar is all in for Valverde, BMC for TeeJay, Astana for the Shark and Garmin is finally committing to a team leader in Talansky. Some other teams (ahem…Trek Factory Racing for one) have...

The Bike. It is the central tool in pursuit of our craft. A Velominatus meticulously maintains their bicycles and adorns them with the essential, yet minimal, accoutrement. The Rules specify the principles of good taste in configuration and setup of our machines, but within those principles lies almost infinite room for personal taste. It seems in s...

  1. @Mikael Liddy, @piwakawaka There..red tape applied…better? »

  2. @Mikael Liddy Yes! Got Stem! I have a very low and long position on the bike. As for the blue tape…that’s from the previous steed. My custom Don Walker is getting an upgrade to Red22 and a new Fizik cockpit, so I just swapped the bars right and other … »

  3. Yeah…N+1 happened again! All hail Rule 12! »

The Tour de Suisse can be everyone’s warm-up for the Tour de France, including all you VSP dreamers. The big show seems to be the Critérium de Dauphanié this year, as far as Tour de France contenders go but the Tour de Suisse still has some big guns showing up. Twiggo is here, not for a Tour warm up, unless people are worried about Richie P...

The divisive nature of Rule #29 is not to be underestimated. It is but a humble satchel, but our rejection of its use sends people completely out of their minds. One fine gentleman even threatened my editor at Cyclist Magazine with cancellation of his subscription on the basis that they published an article wherein I espoused the virtues of goin...

  1. @Nate Crumpton would be a good choice for sure. I also have a Parlee on the list. A shop I ran dealt Parlee bikes and I got to take a tour of the Parlee factory and talk with Bob Parlee himself for a day. We did up a worksheet of my dream bike from the… »

  2. @asyax Will do! I can’t wait either! @antihero I am fortunate enough to be employed within the industry so I have access to beautiful, beautiful bikes..at less than full pop! So I very much embrace Rule 12. »

  3. @asyax Will do! I can’t wait either! »

  4. @Nate That doesn’t mean the list can’t still exist! :)  Despite the future arrival of the Peg and Sachs..I have my eyes on an IndyFab, or a FireFly..and since I have never owned a carbon bike… »

  5. @Nate Wait…would be on the short list, or is on the short list..after all…Rule 12… »

  6. @frank Ahh,the scarfy thing…the instant way of making your Flandrian Best look ridiculous. »

  7. @minion Yup..banned by the UCI, but since my local racing is not UCI I can race them here in our weekly series. The only place where the ban could affect me is when I race at Nationals, but USA Cycling has opted not to enforce that rule at the Masters … »

  8. @Nate I wish I could explain how his eyes lit up when he was scribbling down Special Pink next to my fit numbers. »

  9. @Nate When he asked me what color…I stalled trying to run through all the paint scheme’s I’d seen in my head. Seeing me freeze up..he says- “Pink?…how about Pink?…I will do you a special pink”, so now the order form reads- Dario’s Special Pink. »

  10. Hmmm…that photo didnt work so well…let’s try this one.. »

  11. @The Grande Fondue Yeah…Cam Meyer certainly looks a little bit better on them than I do… »

  12. @Nate He is building me a Big Leg Emma. »

  13. @Nate Very much so!!..I am blessed in the fact that I have worked within the industry for the past 20 years and have ridden a great many bikes built by the various masters. I was ecstatic the day that Sachs accepted my order since he has pretty much clo… »

  14. @therealpeel You are quite welcome! I just Love, love, love how my steel bike sing to me…I cannot await the arrival of the Pegoretti and Richard Sachs I have on order! »

  15. @wiscot The one next to the fence is one of my track bikes. Those are the 3T Sphinx bars. »

  16. @therealpeel Wait…who says we have to cast off steel? Both these baby’s are modern steel and wonderfully fast! Equipped with Tubulars as well. ;-) »

  17. @Cogfather I beg to differ. While tubeless may have some advantages, they can never, NEVER, match the comfort and cornering ability of tubulars. Period. Clinchers and tubeless( since it is just a modified clincher) have to hook into the bead of the rim … »

  18. @frank Hmmm….If you are using a tire with glue on it as the spare…I am not sure I’d want that in the pocket of my jersey. On a hot day, no matter how well folded there might be some issue with it sticking to the inside of the pocket methinks. »

  19. I have spent years riding on tubulars, and for sometime took quite a bit of grief from my teammates for not even carrying a spare tire with me. Ironically…on the day I show up for a team ride with a spare properly stowed beneath my saddle…pffffttt…t… »
