Attention all Velominati. The Tour VSP is going on line and it should be a good one. Sure, between Froomy and Bertie a person could hedge their bets but Moviestar is all in for Valverde, BMC for TeeJay, Astana for the Shark and Garmin is finally committing to a team leader in Talansky. Some other teams (ahem…Trek Factory Racing for one) have...

  1. @wiscot I heard that the gesture was a tribute to his baby girl. Nice, but it was a bit odd. »

I like definition, to place things in a box and tightly seal the lid. It makes me feel comfortable, like another of life’s little mysteries has been stored away for safe keeping. I also love ambiguity; it is the space wherein all interesting questions are asked; the unknown is life’s greatest beauty. You might say that makes me a hypo...

  1. @frank Martin has jumped up a bunch places on my list of favorite riders in this Tour. Some really incredible riding. I already mentioned his heroic towing of Kwiatkowski in the mountains the day after his solo stage win. I really thought for a moment … »

  1. @frank He stole it from Phinney’s win at the ToC this year. »

  2. I should have known better than to put Porte in the VSP. »

Why are women’s races run concurrently with men’s races? I would get it if it was the women’s Tour de France, but I don’t get it when it is the women’s Giro in July. Since the Tour de Swiss there has been a lack of stage racing (in my TV watching schedule) and seemingly a perfect time to present a women’s stage r...

  1. @Buck Rogers I appreciate your point of view. We see the situation differently. That’s another thing that makes sport great. The ability to compete and have differing opinions without having to hate your opponent (not that we’re opponents here). And i… »

  2. @ChrisO I have to agree with @ChrisO on this one. Abbott finished the Giro less than 2 minutes down on Vos, and just 22 seconds of the podium. Last year, she beat Vos in the mountains to win. It was within the best interest of Rabo-Liv to keep Abbott in… »

  1. @wiscot After sitting on the side of the road for four minutes, it would have been very easy just to climb into the car. He’s known for a couple of days that his GC chances are done. They don’t call him the Pit Bull for nothing apparently. Even if he d… »

  2. Gotta try and salvage something! VSP PICKS (1st Rest Day Swaps): 1. Nibali 2. Valverde 3. Porte 4. van Garderen 5. Mollema »

  3. Wow, what a Tour so far, and we haven’t even reached the first rest day. Overshadowed by Contador’s fate today: How fucking awesome is Tony Martin? He crushes yesterday’s stage for the win, and comes right back the next day to bury himself for Kwiatkows… »

When it comes to Rule Compliance, we have at our disposal three viable options. The first is to Obey the Rules. That one is pretty straight-forward because we wrote them down for you and also went to the great length of writing a book on the subject, partly as a public service to those suffering from insomnia. But The Rules are full of apparent...

  2. Personally, I think Millar looks fairly silly dressed like he lives in the 60′s but atop a modern aero road bike. Put him on @Teocalli’s Butler and he’d look the business. Faboo’s layout is infinitely better (I’ll admit my bias since he’s my cycling man-c… »

  1. And we just can’t let Stage 5 go, can we? Now Terpstra thinks the pave shouldn’t be in the Tour. “…he says that non-classics riders should not be forced to tackle them in a Grand Tour. “I think cobblestone races are made for Classics. For a Classic y… »

  2. @Fausto Crapiz Really? Have you actually been paying attention? There has been some fantastic racing so far in this Tour. Even yesterday in the rain. That wind caused some real havoc in the peloton and made for some very interesting stuff. Winning a gra… »

  3. Did anyone else notice that Nibali was in the drops almost all day yesterday? Most guys seem to ride the pave either on the tops or on the hoods, but Nibali was down in the drops–attacking the roads all day. »

  4. Really gutsy performance from a lot of guys today, including Nibali. Who saw that coming? »

  5. @ChrisO The really crazy part is that they hadn’t even reached the cobbles yet! I think it’s safe to say that nobody wanted to see Froome out this way. He did appear to have a string of bad luck starting with his crash at the Dauphine, and just didn’t … »

  6. He’s done! Holy shit! »

  7. Froome looks about to get into the team car! »

  8. Froome hits the deck again. And they haven’t even reached the cobbles yet. This could be a disaster of a day for him. »

The Bike. It is the central tool in pursuit of our craft. A Velominatus meticulously maintains their bicycles and adorns them with the essential, yet minimal, accoutrement. The Rules specify the principles of good taste in configuration and setup of our machines, but within those principles lies almost infinite room for personal taste. It seems in s...
