Attention all Velominati. The Tour VSP is going on line and it should be a good one. Sure, between Froomy and Bertie a person could hedge their bets but Moviestar is all in for Valverde, BMC for TeeJay, Astana for the Shark and Garmin is finally committing to a team leader in Talansky. Some other teams (ahem…Trek Factory Racing for one) have...

  1. @ChrisO final climb was definitely lively, it’s always nice to see Piti losing time too. I’m quite liking the French civil war that’s going on, but they’re all racing for second. »

  2. @Erik Who was Phonak’s team doctor back in ’06? »

  3. @piwakawaka ever since the server issues this week the site doesn’t seem to be shrinking photos to fit the comment column  width. »

We are the Keepers of the Cog. In so being, we also maintain the sacred text wherein lie the simple truths of cycling etiquette known as The Rules. It is in our trust to maintain and endorse this list. The Rules lie at the beginning of The Path to La Vie Velominatus, not at the end; learning to balance them against one another and to welcome them...

  1. Looks like Luca Terpstra is getting a pretty early introduction in to la vie velominatus, this a 4 year old who rides rollers better than I do! »

The Bike. It is the central tool in pursuit of our craft. A Velominatus meticulously maintains their bicycles and adorns them with the essential, yet minimal, accoutrement. The Rules specify the principles of good taste in configuration and setup of our machines, but within those principles lies almost infinite room for personal taste. It seems in s...

  1. @Poppyseed not entirely your fault, the comments seem not to be shrinking the photos to fit the threads anymore. »

I like definition, to place things in a box and tightly seal the lid. It makes me feel comfortable, like another of life’s little mysteries has been stored away for safe keeping. I also love ambiguity; it is the space wherein all interesting questions are asked; the unknown is life’s greatest beauty. You might say that makes me a hypo...

  1. @Puffy probably a concession to the poor swannies that have to wash the kit after that much gravel work. On a personal note I’m a black glasses kinda guy for two reasons. First, I’m already wearing a white helmet so it could be a little too much white … »

  2. As ever, there’s an exception that proves this rule. Step forward, Weight of a Nation. »

Why are women’s races run concurrently with men’s races? I would get it if it was the women’s Tour de France, but I don’t get it when it is the women’s Giro in July. Since the Tour de Swiss there has been a lack of stage racing (in my TV watching schedule) and seemingly a perfect time to present a women’s stage r...

  1. @piwakawaka well that’s the thing. If that were a sprint, they’d be relegated for it, but it seems to have been allowed because they were going uphill. Can’t imagine the badger would have stood for it, we might have seen this type of action unleashed on h… »

  1. I’ll be honest, reading something like this makes it even more frustrating to see someone who’s healthy like Cancellara willingly pull himself out. Kinda feels like he’s taking the biggest race in the world for granted… http://www.iamtedking.com/2014/0… »

  2. Loving seeing the French with some genuine chances up there, while I wouldn’t normally wish harm on any cyclist…there’ll be no tears if Malmerde befalls the contender’s curse. Also seriously unhappy with Faboo’s effort, if you toe up to the start line … »

  1. @G’rilla for fuck’s sake man, have you no pride? Surely you know better than to put your bike up here before checking for Rule #26 & Rule #41 compliance! I’m not angry, just disappointed. »

When it comes to Rule Compliance, we have at our disposal three viable options. The first is to Obey the Rules. That one is pretty straight-forward because we wrote them down for you and also went to the great length of writing a book on the subject, partly as a public service to those suffering from insomnia. But The Rules are full of apparent...

Maybe it’s the narcissist in me or maybe I never really learned how to share properly, but I prefer my birthday over Christmas. My birthday is the one day of the year where everything is about me.
