Very much in the nascent stages of learning la vie Velominatus, however like many a young buck am eager to learn & accept the painful leassons with glee.

Twiggo is dreaming of a Giro-Tour double. He has sent out mixed messages about his Tour ambitions. Will he use the Giro as the ultimate Tour preparation or will be burn all his matches in May and hope he can find another pack for July? He has abandoned his successful 2012 Tour run-up strategy of winning every stage race he entered the previous spri...

  1. @Mike_P so what say we of Visconti (banned for having worked with Ferrari) dropping the killer like a stone the other night? »

I’ve been a fan of Danilo Di Luca a long time, and to tell the truth, was much more suspect of Menchov’s performance at the Giro than I was of Di Luca’s; Menchov rode the last few days of the Giro like it was a Sunday spin, while Di Luca seemed to visibly tire with each attack.  It’s always a shame when a rider I like tests...

  1. Better shot of Duarte’s V-related expulsion. In relation to yesterday I hope all we saw was the difference between the guy who prepped for this race as his season goal & the guys that weren’t quite planning on being on peak form at the moment…I h… »

Bicycles and automobiles- can’t we all just get along? @Kah writes about this universal (do aliens have this issue also?) problem of us co-existing with humans in cars. We all drive cars too and have cursed the occasional cyclists for some good reason. Cars are our greatest threat. We can crawl away from our own bicycle crashes, thanks very m...

  1. @Ron here’s my compromises with the VMH on the ‘safety’ wear when riding in the dark (or at least starting/finishing in it). Rapha’s pink brevet gilet & the yellow DeFeet oversocks, they still look good (in my opinion) and they’re bright enough to … »

  2. @mouse To be honest I’d query whether Cuddles will be able to back it up to lead the Tour given the effort involved in competing in the Giro. Bertie couldn’t keep up in the last week of the ’11 tour after his casual jaunt through the Italian countryside… »

  1. Cuddles came in at 33″ down with & with the 12″ bonification for Nibbles as well the gap is out to 1:26″ by my calculations, Gesink came in around 3 minutes down with the rest of the Blanco squad. »

  5. @ChrisO the example provided by @The Grande Fondue is a little extreme but from late winter to early summer you’ll see many a Fred with them atop their heads to try to avoid nesting magpies swooping & pecking at them as they pass. Safe to say they sit… »

We’re huge pro cycling fans. Michelle and I both get very involved with particular riders; for Michelle her favorites have been Jan Ullrich and Marco Pantani; for me, it’s been Ullrich, Pantani, and Ivan Basso. It seems we’re bent on loving riders who eventually get wound up in some sort of doping mess, and it’s getting real...

We close out the 6 Days of the Giro with our sixth and final installment.A body at rest, stays at rest. A body in motion, stays in motion. Things get a bit more ambiguous when it comes to a body on a bicycle tearing down a twisty mountain descent at speed, particularly in the rain. But it is here, on the boundary between clarity and ambiguity, wher...

Day 5 of the Six Days of the Giro continues with an impromptu VSP event.Lets have a look at where we are in the 2013 Giro.
