He has abandoned his successful 2012 Tour run-up strategy of winning every stage race he entered the previous spri...

The Bike. It is the central tool in pursuit of our craft. A Velominatus meticulously maintains their bicycles and adorns them with the essential, yet minimal, accoutrement. The Rules specify the principles of good taste in configuration and setup of our machines, but within those principles lies almost infinite room for personal taste. It seems in s...

  1. @thebaron Interesting. I do hate how firm those are, but I like the mouth piece. »

  2. I am amazed at the OCD and ADD I have developed as an adult. I woulda never cared even 5 years ago. »

  3. @thebaron I can assure you that I understand. when it comes to my C’Dale I am very particular. Im even contemplating getting new bidons cause I dont like the way the ones I have look on the bike. »

  4. @thebaron huh. I never heard of that. But honestly, I am a huge fan of Shimano so I never looked into it. »

  5. @thebaron I dont get that, how do you have a Shimano cassette on a Campa hub? »

Rule #31 was conceived out of necessity, aesthetics and plain good taste.  Seeing an oversized saddle bag hanging limply by velcro under a Flite, Arione or Regal just isn’t right.  Frame pumps, while they undoubtedly do the finest job of inflating a tube, add nothing but bulk and clutter to the lines of a frame (and aren’t compatibl...

  1. @snoov great to hear. I was freaking out. I installed a set but have yet to ride em. I keep pumping air in every 2 days just so they sit in my apartment. I just dont want the latex to find a way between the bead. »

We close out the 6 Days of the Giro with our sixth and final installment.A body at rest, stays at rest. A body in motion, stays in motion. Things get a bit more ambiguous when it comes to a body on a bicycle tearing down a twisty mountain descent at speed, particularly in the rain. But it is here, on the boundary between clarity and ambiguity, wher...

  1. @frank I keep saying that. Tucson isn’t a bad place to vacation in the winter. It’s not Hawaii but its not bad. You’ll find many a pro team having their winter training camps here. You can do a Frank vs the Lemmon series. »

  2. @piwakawaka no. It’s 2 hour climb for the very fit rider. 21 miles at 5%. »

  3. We have 1 mountain to climb and descend. »

  1. It was posted on the Fairwheel bikes FB page. If you like bike bling, you should like their page. They do a lot of really costum stuff, even  fabricating carbon stuff. Those Tune tea tests I posted a while back sell for $240 a set. These bidons are pretty… »

In most situations, silence is an ominous thing that signals impending doom. Having never been in any danger myself, I base this largely on my experience watching box-office movies. As a general rule, I use Hollywood as the principal source of information on all subjects as they relate to doom and politics, principally because I’m loath t...

The Ride. It is the cathedral of our sport, where we worship at the altar of the Man with the Hammer. It is the end to our means. Indeed, The Bike may be the central tool to our sport, but to turn the pedals is to experience the sensation of freedom, of flight. It is all for The Ride. The world is overflowing with small, twisty roads that capture ou...
