Saddle bags have no place on a road bike, and are only acceptable on mountain bikes in extreme cases.Saddle bags: how do we define them? Is it a saddle bag if it attaches to the seat post and the saddle, if it has a zipper, if it is leather, has two natty straps with buckles, if it swings below the saddle like bumper bollocks? 1. Much like the Lezyne phone pouch, I have the Rapha essentials case, which is big enough to hole a small multi tool, 2 CO2s and the inflater, some cash and bank card, tyre levers and a patch kit because I’m too cheap and don’t know enough about tubulars to… »

Did everyone got tired of seeing a nearly naked Marcel Kittel on the massage table for the Tour’s VSP page? I know I didn’t. Young Kennaugh will be sporting his British road race jersey and his proper shoe/sock pairing in this Vuelta. Get used to it. Ladies and gentleman we have a race. We have some Giro winners, we have some Tour...

The Whale Shark is the biggest nonmammalian vertebrate* on the planet, rivaling the dinosaurs for size. How do you feed yourself when you’re that huge without loading up on carbs all the time? Easy, you swim around with your mouth wide open for 22 hours a day and hope enough food swims in there to take the edge off the hunger pangs. Cycl...

  1. Just tried the Whale Shark on the only wee hill where I live. Its pretty effective. Lots of lovely country air filling lungs and fuelling the guns. Rode like a beast ( for a 5’9″ 88kg lump) and smashed a PB or 2. It looks ridiculous, but most things I do … »

I like definition, to place things in a box and tightly seal the lid. It makes me feel comfortable, like another of life’s little mysteries has been stored away for safe keeping. I also love ambiguity; it is the space wherein all interesting questions are asked; the unknown is life’s greatest beauty. You might say that makes me a hypo...

  1. My white lightning shades are oakley fast jackets. A mate recommended them as he used to wear them for mountain biking. They look incredibly pro and they are the best eyewear I’ve ever owned, including my RayBans which, of course, have never been worn on … »

@RossArmstrong2014's posts:

  1. @Ccos I agree about the black sock and blue shoe combo. I must admit, I like the white on white, and only on the shittiest of Rule #9 days do I wear my black socks, only to keep my white socks pristine. »

  1. One of my colleagues enjoys running, and he passed on some advice to me when I first started out cycling. He used to put Cavilon barrier cream on his nipples when he ran marathons, and tried it when he went cycling too. I find it works pretty well, having… »

@RossArmstrong2014's posts:

  1. I must admit, I search high and low for parts on the cheap all the time. I got my ec90 seat post for 70 quid instead of £150, because it was a display model. The Cube that I ride was a 2013 model, so that was reduced too (from £1250 to £900) and my fi'zi:k … »

@RossArmstrong2014's posts:

  1. Rub down the legs in the shower, and let plenty of hot water run down my back and neck. I rarely stretch before a ride, and I probably should try to stretch more often »

  2. @Gianni After a while, it was the only pedal wrench I used, bought one from my boss for home use. Here’s a pic of the tool in question :) »

  3. I used to use Pedro’s pedal wrenches when I worked in my LBS, or a Cyclo which was offset, and had a 90 and 45 degree jaw. The offset wrench was great for not ripping hands apart on chainrings. »
