  1. @frank Damn!  2nd place VSP for Le Tour!  What would you do with the yellow jersey icon all year? »

  2. @Steampunk I wondered after last year’s performance why Trek let him go instead of dropping the Schlecks.  And now they are looking for a young GC contender?  I.  Don’t.  Understand. »

  1. @Rob On the other hand I think the whole get up looks sort of cute and hot… £;~} WTF is happening here?  A Faboo-like man-crush?  AND emoticons?! For shame »

Last week we completed the second stop in the tour for our book, The Rules; The Way of the Cycling Disciple. For the first two, we partnered with Rapha to do a five-to-six hour ride and then sign the books at the shop afterwards. In both cases, I was amazed by the quality of the riding and by the ride leaders themselves, Robert in NYC and Eric in...

  1. @ChrisO I don’t buy it.  As long as you aren’t putting the RD springs past their plastic deformation point (and there is no way that is happening), it shouldn’t matter. »

  2. I personally like my Time RXS hex key attachment method.  I, too, never thought about the chain in the big ring – doh! As far as bottle openers, I use the Wisecracker on my MTB (rigid SS).  In the shop (my basement), I use a bench mounted opener.  A budd… »

  1. @KW  yeah – Fabian was clearly as strong as Sagan and everyone else, if not stronger, in E3 – he was just caught up behind a crash.  The way he was powering back was so, so impressive as it was like everyone else was pedaling in slow motion. »

  2. For the talk of a weak Spartacus, I think this article tells a great story – at least regarding preparation I haven’t heard until now. It seems Fabs has been doing interval sprint training just for such an occasion.  Whether you call it 1) getting tired … »

The Kemmelberg is a brute. In my opinion, its the hardest of the cobbled climbs in the Spring Classics; it has a high speed tarmac approach that saps the guns of their snap. The transition from tarmac to cobbles is awful, the stones are very badly laid throughout and if you don’t hit it just right, you’ll come to a standstill. The cobbl...

Het Volk (it will always be Het Volk to me) and now the Strade Bianche may well mark the sentimental beginning to the season, but those are specialized, pre-season races that appeal mostly to riders who are preparing for bigger objectives later in the year, such as the Cobbled or Ardennes Classics. Same goes for Tirreno Adriatico and Paris-Nice; t...

The Ride. It is the cathedral of our sport, where we worship at the altar of the Man with the Hammer. It is the end to our means. Indeed, The Bike may be the central tool to our sport, but to turn the pedals is to experience the sensation of freedom, of flight. It is all for The Ride. The world is overflowing with small, twisty roads that capture ou...

Cogals (pronounce it correctly: kog-al) are meetings of like-minded misfits brought together by the promise of beer, preceded by a bike ride. Cogals are free, open to all, organized by our fellow Velominati and are always followed by consumption of post-ride Recovery Ales and merriment. These are gatherings of unbridled observance of Rule #4...

Saddle bags have no place on a road bike, and are only acceptable on mountain bikes in extreme cases.Saddle bags: how do we define them? Is it a saddle bag if it attaches to the seat post and the saddle, if it has a zipper, if it is leather, has two natty straps with buckles, if it swings below the saddle like bumper bollocks? There is nothing going on right now, oh right, except the Tour of Poland. Can we talk?I don’t think it’s just Frank and myself who are obsessed with the Hour Record.
