  1. @Sauterelle That is one poorly written article with a decided biased.  Not at all what I would consider objective, nor are the points made necessarily related to the subject.  Not worth spending any more time on, actually. »

Not only do most of us have a tale of our Cycling Sensei, but we also generally have a story for how we came into our current Bike Number 1. Those of us who were online last week probably noticed Jeff’s manic posts regarding a Look that he spotted at a big-box retailer, for a price that should have him constantly looking over his shoulder for...

  1. I’ve found ridewithgps.com to be the most accurate with regard to elevation and grades.  I notified Strava this morning that they have a 125m climb incorrect in that it only crosses 2 40′ contour lines.  They also have my max climb as a little over 10m hi… »

  2. Com on guys! verticals aren’t to scale, they are hugely exaggerated.  Unless you were climbing Everest, a map to scale would more/less be a flat line over a 120km route. »

Twiggo is dreaming of a Giro-Tour double. He has sent out mixed messages about his Tour ambitions. 1. @Nate True – I’m only thinking this could occur at 2 places: 1) seatpost/frame connection, in which sweat will probably not be making contact as it should be umbrella’ed by the saddle 2)  stem/fork/bars, but if any of these pieces are Al, they are usual… »

When I was but a young Velominatus, my poor mother was often horrified/embarrassed/disgusted by my typical boy’s habit of sucking back the mucous from the back of my throat and swallowing it… yes, I know, now you’re disgusted too. Taking me to seek a cure from the good Dr Edwards, he let her down somewhat with his prognosis that w...

The Ride. It is the cathedral of our sport, where we worship at the altar of the Man with the Hammer. It is the end to our means. Indeed, The Bike may be the central tool to our sport, but to turn the pedals is to experience the sensation of freedom, of flight. It is all for The Ride. The world is overflowing with small, twisty roads that capture ou...

There are always at least two ways to accomplish any task: properly and improperly. Drinking beer from a glass, not the bottle; carrying a full umbrella instead of a miniature fold-up; stirring your gin martinis, not shaking them; wearing french cuffs with a suit, not button cuffs. The Velominatus, of course, is drawn towards doing things Properly,...

Its true that socks can be any color you like, but the Velominatus knows in their heart that the only true choice is the color Coppi, Anquetil, Merckx, De Vlaeminck, Hinault, Fignon, and LeMond rode: white. We drew the line at offering a color outside of white, but we do understand that the Goldilocks Principle can’t offer a single perfect len...
