Swimmer, turned rower, turned cyclist. This time I think I'll stick.

@V-inden's posts:

  1. Danny Boy to smash everyone up the climbs, Rigo marked too heavily to be allowed any room to get away and Nairo to have not quite peaked.  J-Rod to lose too much time on TTs and Bad Cadel to make a heart-breaking return at some point and upsetting his cla… »

@V-inden's posts:

  1. One of these 5 will win it. I just don’t know who… Faboo looking imperious and showing that he’s got the tactical nous and versatility to win solo or from a select group.  Vanmarcke’s time will come (The new Spartacus?), until then he will be constantl… »

  1. @Chris That photo is breathtaking! »

  2. This has got to be the hardest one of the year to choose.  I’d love to see Wiggo do well but this isn’t a 245km ITT so I just don’t see it myself.  G will be in the front group and crash heavily on the final lap but will finish anyway. Half of OPQS could… »

The Kemmelberg is a brute. In my opinion, its the hardest of the cobbled climbs in the Spring Classics; it has a high speed tarmac approach that saps the guns of their snap. The transition from tarmac to cobbles is awful, the stones are very badly laid throughout and if you don’t hit it just right, you’ll come to a standstill. The cobbl...

@V-inden's posts:

  1. OPQS and Belkin to dominate on the front only to get smoked by Peter Pincher in the sprint from a select group.  Tommeke, despite his injuries to lead the chasing group home with tears of pure Flandrian iron in his eyes because he’s so damn hard. VSP PIC… »

Het Volk (it will always be Het Volk to me) and now the Strade Bianche may well mark the sentimental beginning to the season, but those are specialized, pre-season races that appeal mostly to riders who are preparing for bigger objectives later in the year, such as the Cobbled or Ardennes Classics. Same goes for Tirreno Adriatico and Paris-Nice; t...

  1. One for the sprinters this year* *makes picks then watches Cancellara/Sagan/Gilbert/Stannard/Kwiatkowski [delete as appropriate] go long for the win. VSP PICKS: 1. Cavendish 2. Greipel 3. Sagan 4. Degankolb 5. Modolo »

We are the Keepers of the Cog. In so being, we also maintain the sacred text wherein lie the simple truths of cycling etiquette known as The Rules. It is in our trust to maintain and endorse this list.The Rules lie at the beginning of The Path to La Vie Velominatus, not at the end; learning to balance them against one another and to welcome them...

@V-inden's posts:

  1. Evidence of further adoption of The Rules from amongst the pro ranks.  Everyone’s second favourite Dutch hardman* Laurens Ten Dam and his morning ride: http://www.strava.com/activities/97488342 *Clearly it’s Hoogerland in the #1 spot on that list.  Or V»

@V-inden's posts:

  1. I certainly can’t compare myself with The Likes of Vansummeren et al but based on height and build (183cm and 82kgs), I feel I’m probably too densely built to class as a rouleur.  I have always enjoyed the rollers and can certainly dish out my own humble … »

@V-inden's posts:

  1. @xyxax Thanks for that! In the end I cut my losses and went for a ride and left my frustration out on the road. »

  2. Anyone know where I can watch this in Britain? Eurosport seems to be preoccupied with cars and motorbikes at the moment. »

  3. Step climb and a descent to the line, this should have Costa written all over it….Having said that, I read someone already mention he’ll still be hungover and I think you might be right. Plus J-Rod will be super motivated and not have Piti-ful to “help”… »

@V-inden's posts:

  1. @Gianni A friend of mine climbed Ventoux this year on a 53×39 11-25 and had a similar experience of arriving at the summit 20 minutes down on me (52×36 12-27) and another fellow rider (50×34 12-28).  We lauded him for his hard man efforts but the respo… »

  2. @HMBSteve I’ve been pretty critical of the performances of Wiggins and Froome et al from the weekend but having raced a few Cat 3/4 road races and been unlucky/shit enough to get dropped I know how hard it can be to chase back on and how quickly the mor… »

  3. @Buck Rogers No Eurosport coverage sadly as I’d have loved to have heard how many “calculaaytions” he would have thrown into the mix when J-Rod, Pity, Nibbles and Costa….er….anyone have a nick-name for our new champion yet??? went clear. In fairness f… »

  4. @Deakus This! »

  5. @Deakus I concur! Although Cav worked his heart out early on, as he always does when he pulls on a national jersey and I’m sure would have always expected to drop out when it reached the circuit. Luke Rowe also put in a good show early on as a late rep… »

  6. Gutted for Purito but as soon as they came back together and Valverdi didn’t make a move I thought it would be Costa For The Win. He’s shown his form in descents to the finish time and again this year and he’s a canny tactician. Chapeau! Shame he won’t n… »

  7. I think all of my picks are still there. Pretty sure that even if I get the top 5 I won’t get them in the right order. Regretting not picking Stybar though, just remembered how he annihilated the peloton on the final climb at the Enneco tour »
