Velominatus: asyax

Order: Winner of the Velominati Super Prestige Paris-Roubaix

Location: Darlington, Western Australia

I have been on bikes since a young tacker, and enjoy all things cycling. Whilst preferring to ascend (and descend) the slopes of Mount Velomis by the tree rooted, rock strewn goat tracks, I adopted the n+1 principle and bought myself a nice roadie - I am now spending about half my time on this. Whilst not having raced as a young bloke, I enjoy entering events (road and MTB) for the cameraderie and banter, and seeing how well I can place. Am a much better swimmer than I'll ever be a cyclist, but I acquit myself OK. Still not Rule 33 compliant though!

This photo is perhaps the greatest of all time; it shows The Prophet riding in the 1969 Ronde van Vlaanderen, kit and machine perfect. Rule #9 conditions in abundance. He’s gone off the front with some 80km left to race, which predictably sent his directeur into a rage. Ordered to return to the bunch, Merckx calmly suggested he go screw hi...

  2. @Mikael Liddy Winter! – I thought I would be able to cover the wookie legs up with tights. Oh, the shame! Merckz is obviously all knowing and sees through such a cheap trick! »

The mighty VSP generator has been switched on once again. The mil-spec hydraulic fluid has been changed since the Giro. A new power take-off belt has also been installed. And the punch card reader has been refurbished.Broome and Berti are already riding the Critérium du Dauphiné. The top contenders prefer the Dauphiné for the decent recovery all...

I find it interesting to observe the chasm between parties engaged in a conversation, particularly in response to questions being asked. I’m thinking, at present, of the question, “How many bikes do you have?” My feelings in response are nothing short of complex and maybe a bit confused; reservation that I feel I should have a mo...

  3. My new Graveur – pretty stock at moment, but still shreds bridle trails. The Velominati got me into the world of CX and gravel(road) bikes . Much more fun on gravel/ fire roads than my 29er. I get the same question – how many bikes do you own ….”Well…… »

Starting at the Narrows on our beloved Swan River we’ll head out to the Hills through JFNP, Mundaring Weir and the Bickley Valley, down the sweeping decent of Canning Mills, through deepest, darkest Kenwick to swing on to the Shelley loop back to the Narrows. We can then recount the days exploits at the Belgian Beer Cafe, drink a toast to Eddie and all avow to be on KT2014!

Update: You can watch the live stream (assuming it works from the velodrome) on the Velominati channel at USTREAM. When you log in, you’ll first see my little test video of my puppy eating grass. In most situations, silence is an ominous thing that signals impending doom. Having never been in any danger myself, I base this largely on my experience watching box-office movies. As a general rule, I use Hollywood as the principal source of information on all subjects as they relate to doom and politics, principally because I’m loath t...

Day 5 of the Six Days of the Giro continues with an impromptu VSP event.Lets have a look at where we are in the 2013 Giro. Hesjedal has put in some good moves and...

I’ve taken exactly one economics course in my life. If the fog of time isn’t too thick, I recall two theories that account for value. These theories posit value as being either (A) intrinsic or (B) subjective. That is to say that commodities are valuable in and of themselves and that value can be established objectively by the market. O...

The Bike. It is the central tool in pursuit of our craft. A Velominatus meticulously maintains their bicycles and adorns them with the essential, yet minimal, accoutrement. The Rules specify the principles of good taste in configuration and setup of our machines, but within those principles lies almost infinite room for personal taste. It seems in s...
