It has been many years (25!) since professional female cyclists have raced on the cobbles of the Champs Elysées. While running the Giro Donne concurrently with the Tour de France makes no sense to me, this Sunday’s women’s race does make sense. It should be the model for a Women’s Tour de France: the route, infrastructure, roadsi...

Attention all Velominati. The Tour VSP is going on line and it should be a good one. Sure, between Froomy and Bertie a person could hedge their bets but Moviestar is all in for Valverde, BMC for TeeJay, Astana for the Shark and Garmin is finally committing to a team leader in Talansky. Some other teams (ahem…Trek Factory Racing for one) have...

  1. Well, that does it for this year’s Tour. What a race, I really loved this whole thing soup to nuts. As for the VSP GC, lets see what we’ve got here after La Course and Le Tour’s points are added in: 2014 VSP G.C.1. il muro di manayunk (144 points) 2. fr… »

  2. I don’t think Evie Stevens is racing, for those of you who have picked her… Also, I am a fool not to pick Mary V, but I figure Lizzie is due for a win. Can’t wait to watch this; is NBC covering this? Phil said coverage started at 4:30 (Pacific) but th… »

The Whale Shark is the biggest nonmammalian vertebrate* on the planet, rivaling the dinosaurs for size. How do you feed yourself when you’re that huge without loading up on carbs all the time? Easy, you swim around with your mouth wide open for 22 hours a day and hope enough food swims in there to take the edge off the hunger pangs. 1. @Rom Ouch, I hope that didn’t happen while gesticulating to the VMH about why she should just deal with the leg shaving. Oh, and excellent choice in literature; I see you are a scholar. »

  1. @KW Totally. Must finish to win. My favorite part of Nibble’s win is that Astana hired Peter Van Petegem and trained hard on the stones, practiced it extensively, really nailed the details and spent time riding them at race pace. That attention to det… »

Brad Wiggins is sitting at home, watching his team implode at a Tour de France he was not invited to.What’s on his mind? An attempt at the Hour Record, that’s what. 1. @KW Froome was bad luck, Contador made a mistake trying to pass a rider at great speed with one hand in his pocket and the other on a handlebar. His own fault he was out, that’s just pure racing. Froome’s accident(s) was racing too, but that was a bit m… »

  2. @wiscot I agree on all counts here. I’d also like to point out that I hated Contador’s Giro win mostly because I never liked him as a rider. I also didn’t like Nibble’s Giro win – it felt boring. But somehow, I’m loving this win of his even though it’… »

I like definition, to place things in a box and tightly seal the lid. It makes me feel comfortable, like another of life’s little mysteries has been stored away for safe keeping.
