Order: Keeper of the Cog

Social: Website / / /

A lifelong Velominatus, the history and culture within cycling fascinates Frank and, if given even the vaguest of excuses, will discuss it to exhuastion. A devoted cycling aesthete, the only thing more important to him than riding a bike well is looking good doing it. Frank is co-author along with the other Keepers of the popular book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple and also writes a monthly column for the magazine, Cyclist. It doesn’t take a genius to see what’s going on here. Rule #5, Rule #9, Rule #10; every rider in this frame Looks Fantastic (most other Rules). The riders are in short sleeves and shorts while the public apparently has scavenged materials from rubbish bins and the local grain elevator in a very visually unpleasant effort to keep war...

@frank's posts:

  1. And speaking of baller; Fausto shows us a little something about Rule #33 and also why its cool to flip the visor up even when you’re wearing it backwards. »

  2. De Vlaeminck: balancing the casquette with sideburns. So baller. »

We want to look like Pros, sure, but what we’re really after is feeling Pro. All the aesthetics are just a tool we use to fuel the fickle internal combustion engine of Morale. In the end, there is little that will make you feel Pro more than clattering along a stretch of cobbles in a small group; instant “select breakaway”. One...

  1. @Teocalli, @ChrisO, @Chris We won’t be doing a Cogal and no weekenders this time, unfortunately. You should all just come along for the trip and stop faffing about talking about half-measures. »

  1. Pharmstrong actually wasn’t a bad cap-wearer; only style thing he really nailed other than the team shorts thing. And a close up of the Master. »

  2. Most Casually Deliberate wearing of the backwards cap while bunny hopping a grave-sized hole in the Arenberg Forest at race pace. »

  3. @Markp What Le Prof never understood about helmets and caps is your hair can never stick out from under the front; it always has to be tucked back underneath. No forehead showing. What Le Prof also missed about the sweatband is that while it still fol… »

  4. @Markp Indeed. Kids, don’t try this at home! »

One of the things that strikes me most about the English is they don’t appear to have developed any sort of “inner dialog”. It seems anything that passes through the brain is parlayed directly to the tongue; if the thought being expressed is an insult to you, it will generally include a query for confirmation: “You’r...

@frank's posts:

  1. @Haldy Definitely, we’ll turn a blind eye to this lot point each other around to the web here on their violation of Rule #58. @teleguy57, @Chris, @Haldy option – e – e on the mac, windows > Chrome > google.com on Windows. »

  2. @Chris I think the most redeeming quality of Vittoria USA is that they’re not importing the black ones. Haldy, please direct your clients as @Chris indicates. Let me know if you need me to swing by and “persuade” them. »

  1. @Buck Rogers @brett In 1991 no less. (Captions didn’t make it through somehow) @Buck Rogers Email me specifics – rouleur at you know where and I’ll look into it. I tested it with an account like yours and it worked for me and others are posting, so… »

@frank's posts:

  1. @Haldy Whats the point of all black Pavé’s? Isn’t the charm in the “wet-weather” rubber that apparently only comes in ugly shades of turquoise? »

  2. @teleguy57 I was happy moving to 25s, then 26’s. The FMB measures a bit wide, so it will ride like a 28. I don’t see not riding them regularly but we’ll see. 25s seem to be very good all-round tires. I rode the cobbles on that width two seasons of KT,… »

  1. @brett Prophetic, isn’t it? »

  2. @Souleur THIS! @Buck Rogers I have ’83-’90 and they are all so much fun. That ’90 edition is awesome. When did those stop? I’d love to grab some from the early 90’s. @ruudi That’s correct, some funny caching issue as the actual title was correc… »

  3. @ChrisO Oh no, don’t start that again! Caps under helmets have a perfectly functional purpose, especially for bald people (not my problem) or in Rule #9 conditions. @Pedale.Forchetta Perfect. »

  4. @wiscot Right on all counts. Still a masterclass in wearing one. Next edition will be on wearing winter Cycling caps. »

  5. @davidlhill I’ve been too busy to manage it properly so we took the products down until we can sort out a proper way to handle it all. Big improvements in the works for Jan 1 2014 including new kit design (still keeping the original of course) and the … »

  7. @The Grande Fondue I was a Bugno man myself; that was a fantastic Tour, despite the heartbreak of LeMond “faltering”. Chiappucci also went from dodgy looking weirdo to totally Pro looking stud. He even looked good in those blue denim spandex shorts. »

  8. @VeloSix Its all about execution. »

  9. @Markp This photo puts in sharp relief what has happened to the European peloton due to the introduction of the helmet, a device that has flummoxed the French in particular more than anyone. Compare Jaja below with cap with the above. How can a dude… »

  10. @Mikael Liddy It will be part of the 2015 V-Gear reboot; in the mean time, meditate on this fucking cap. »
