"We used to live in a rolled up newspaper in a septic tank." Found the bike relatively late in life after a mis-spent youth. Now cured, living northern Sydney, soaking up the serenity and agony of the local gorges... Married, 2 kids, school teacher (design & tech) renovating the house and running the school MTB program.

@harminator's activity:

Happy living in our stressful lives is all about organization. For instance, I like to sort the tasks first by priority and then group tasks of equal priority into buckets of minor priorities. Software developers creatively call this approach to organization a “bucket sort”. This helps break down what appears to be an insurmountable me...

  1. @Haldy I’m a big Terpstra fan and happy that he got a PR win but that finale was massisve demonstration of anti V. 10k from the line and the fucking who’s who of Classics hardmen all together and not one of the fuckers tries to match Terpstra? What the! »

  2. @Frank You got the first 3 letters right. »

  3. Funny you switched the lead pic to this as I was typing. My last big goal was the Gavia Mortirolo loop. The Gavia went very nicely but the Mortirolo took me places in the pain cave I could never have imagined. »

  4. Nicely put @Frank. I know that, for me, having an objective is the most potent motivator. And it works both ways. The suffering during training is sustained by thinking about the objective and when the big days arrive the suffering is sustained by reflect… »

You can only spend so much time with the Schlecks before you start talking like them, and the fabulous Fabs seems to have crossed the threshold. I’ve heard more complaining from him this season than I have talk about pushing harder on the pedals or going steady up with more speed or going full gas like everyone else, but just doing it for ...

  1. @wiscot Agreed. If not MK then who? Who was more worthy on the day? Best response from Giblets: “I saw Kwiatkowski going away on the descent and I didn’t really think he’d stay away, but he was clearly very strong,” Gilbert said, later musing: “The win… »

  3. @Mikael Liddy Yes. Green patch bewilderment here too. Way to take an iconic symbol and fuck it up. Maybe Switzerland is planning to annexe a third of Italy. (You heard it here first.) Hey! Wait! I got a new complaint. Worst commentary ever. Uncle Phil… »

  4. @Buck Rogers Tommeke has jumped the shark. Exhibit A: »

  5. @Ccos Vos was dropped well before that crash. If you watch a longer version she rolls through the mess about 30 seconds later. Lucinda Brand (bib 11) is the psychic. »

  6. This man will turn the race… VSP PICKS: 1. Kristoff 2. Gerro 3. Degenkolb 4. Cancellara 5. Valverde »

This is big. This is the race that decides the arc-en-ciel  jersey for the next year. It is the best looking jersey. It carries the most baggage. It also brings the most respect. The World Championship is a circuit race of attrition. In Ponferrada Spain it’s an 182 km loop done seven times, with a total of 2142 m of climbing. Is it a climber...

@harminator's posts:

  1. Seemed such a long way to the line from the bottom of the hill for those four. I think a solo attack (like the Junior Mens) over the final climb is the go. Sparty won’t want to be towing anyone. »

  2. @Geraint 5. Cromwell (I think) Bizarre. Never seen a riders sit up like that in the final K – let alone a group with such strength. »

It never gets easier, you just go faster. - Greg LeMond Rule #5 looms above the other Rules in terms of sheer relevance to Cycling; it is the fundamental building block upon which this sport is built. The Five is what drives us, it is the force that springs from a well that flows deep within each of us. It must be discovered, and then we learn...

  1. @Puffy You nearly lost me at 20 x 20 min efforts. »

If Tony gets a flat or two and loses this time trial, bookies will be jumping off bridges into the Thames. It’s a lock, man, it’s a lock. There, it is now jinxed. You are welcome. Picking second through fifth will take some acumen. Will these be Vuelta riders or does that just hold true for the road race? Tony could have a jour sans. Co...

All hail, the Worlds are upon us. The time trials should be events where all VSP participants can rack up some decent points. Remove team tactics, national team versus trade team allegiances, using this event to train for another event, bonking and hanging onto team cars from the equation. All one is left with are possible flat tire, possible mecha...

Cycling is a sport steeped in the tradition of style. There’s no denying it. From the days of miners and farmers escaping the hardships of a life spent toiling in harsh and filthy conditions either under or above ground, through Coppi and his Cosa Nostra-esque garb and swagger, Merckx and De Vlaeminck’s 70s sideburns, to Cipo and his...
