  1. All, Thanks for the supportive posts everyone.  Appointment with the fitting guru is at 1:00 tomorrow.  I’m taking my 56 Neil Pryde and the 58 Cannondale with me and we’re to spend somewhere in the neighbourhood of 3-4 hours together.  He said to bring f… »

  2. @ChrisO It did.  185 cm tall, and every time I see this guy he tells me that my bike is too small for me and that I should be riding a 58.  The fit of my current bike has never felt perfect, so I trusted him.  We also said that if it came in and it didn… »

  3. Bit of a hiccup with the Cannondale acquisition.  The bike that he ordered in for me is a 58.  My current bike is a 56 but buddy swears that it is too small for me and that I’ll have no problem slotting into a 58. So today I went down to try an initial f… »

  4. I quit drinking about 3 years ago.  When I was drinking I spent north of $100 each week on alcohol and various alcohol related adventures.  So, the way I figure it, I have to spend at least $5000 on something for me every year just to break even – at leas… »

  5. @Ron The wheels look fantastic, no doubt.  They’re a bit of a hybrid – aluminum wheel with carbon faring and spokes.  The braking surface is aluminum and has a special coating on it to enhance braking performance.  They’re not super light – 1600g and fro… »

  6. Buddy that owns the shop ordered one for himself and it arrived today, so I went down to help him pull it out of the box – big mistake.  It looks fantastic…just perfect.  The FSA SLK cockpit is worth $800.  The wheels are likely worth $1500.  It’s got t… »

  7. Ah shit.  My buddy with the bike shop just called to say that he can get me a brand new, still in the box, 2013 model Cannondale Supersix EVO Hi Mod Team Red with Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR wheels for $4500 (canadian $).  Retail was $9300 for this bike.  Th… »

  8. @piwakawaka After some further research I don’t think I’ll be spending the extra money.  This is what it says on the site… “The Marinoni Piuma Supreme is a bicycle built with a brand new variant of the Columbus Spirit tubing, the Spirit SA, offered … »

  9. @freddy That’s a sweet bike @freddy!  How was your purchase experience?  Did you visit Marinoni in Quebec or deal through one of the local bike stores? »

  10. Yes sir!  There is a lot a value added when you think about the experience as a whole. »

  11. »

  12. Here’s the same bike in a more modern colour palette. »

  13. Sorry, should have noted that the bike above is a Marinoni Piuma.  Looks a little spiffier than the Ritchey.  The tubing is Columbus SL from Italy – I believe the Ritchey has their own blend of steel for their tubing.  Very few reports out there about how… »

  14. I had asked earlier about other options in steel around the $1000 price mark.  I’ve since been looking at one of these… I think these are hand made in Canada rather than mass produced in China.  I believe the Ritchey Logic that I commented on earlier… »

A great unknown awaits the young men, bound by a common entity of steel, flesh and passion rolled together. Do they contemplate the future, or are they so encapsulated in the here and now that anything beyond the finish line seems like it could only be for old people? Have they any inkling which path they will take, or be guided towards? Maybe...

  1. Being relatively new to the sport it seems remarkable to me that in 1989 they were still riding steel with downtube shifters.  Those Huffy’s looks pretty sweet. »

  1. @oligali I keep looking at this frame – $1000 seems like pretty good value, no? I just did a charity gran Fondo with an entry price steep enough that there were some good door prizes.  I took home a Shimano Ultegra 6800 mechanical group set.  I’ve been… »

I don’t mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that’s how it comes out. - Bill Hicks That famous quote from the Greatest Comedian Of All Time™ has resonated with me for many years. 1. Well, As a fairly recent inductee to the sport I have some sympathy for the Fred.  Not only did I have an EPMS dangling off the back of my saddle, but I bought another one to sit above the top tube and behind the headset for food and money and the like -… »

@Bianchi_Bob sent his article in just this week. Its sense of urgency required it to be published NOW. We all need reminding to live in the moment; here is a good reminder. Thanks Bianchi Bob. Yours in Cycling, Gianni Continue reading...

  1. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story of strength. I seem to go back and forth in my struggle to remain present. But I do know exactly what you’re talking about. There is an easiness of being that takes gold of me when I’m able to stick with it. I’m… »

  4. @Ron Hey guys, I ended up picking up some Vittoria latex tubes.  Installation was a breeze although I did have a bit of concern that there were going to be issues around the valve as the tube is thicker and reinforced there and it didn’t seem to want… »

I hesitate to file this in the Guest Article category. It would be better filed under fellow un-rewarded pirate cycling-site writer, if we had such a file. @winnipegcyclechick does all of her site’s writing, her graphics are usually hers and much too funny. 1. Perfection

The fifth Cogal to be held in Scotland will tackle what is considered to be the UK’s toughest road climb, the famed Bealach Na Ba (Pass of the Cattle) Wester Ross. Rising from sea level to 626m in 10km, this jewel is the closest thing to a true Alpine pass that Britain has to offer. For anyone thinking that this is it, be advised that the total climbing for the 144km ride is 2770m and this is only on day 1. Day 2 will be shorter (70km)but being the Scottish Highlands will not be flat. Did I not mention that this is a weekend event? Hell yes!

Lodgings are available in the Kinlochewe Hotel where pre ride espresso and post ride recovery beverages will be taken. The hardy will share the attached 12 bed bunkhouse whilst those who demand a greater degree of comfort can stay in the hotel itself. Tel 01445 730253 to book in.

Join us UK based Velominati, for what will undoubtedly be a rugged classic.

Brett’s fine Nick Cave article got me thinking about music and cycling. We spend lots of time alone on our bikes. The bike is on autopilot, it stays upright from second to second, freeing up our brains to consider anything or nothing. Music might be the only riding companion we have but it has to be the right music. Being as Pro as possible is...

  1. Timely article. I have never been one to break Rule #62.  On Sunday morning though, as I was kitting up for what was to be a solo century, I thought, “…maybe it would be nice to have some music along for part of it”.  And so I stuck the wife’s Ipod int… »
