@frank I’ll give you Ryder, but not Jens – he can do now wrong. I’m 1.88, sure it was 1.9 but have spent too much time in the middle of a rugby scrum, which will have to approximate for a decent length. and we all know that ended in tears »
No, it’s too much. Live and let live, each to their own is fine by me so an occasional variation from the norm is OK. But this is a site where perfection is always to be sought, where the length of your socks may cause serious offence, where bar tape is… »

@marcus great effort. For 10 short runs to come in with even 6m km splits topped it off nicely. I had you and 1066 going head to head in div 4044 and you’ve bolted in. Anybody who completed in those conditions did well. »

@Barracuda We’d just about be able to run a Tassie cycling team to compete with any UCI team. Porte, Matthew Goss, Sulzberger brothers, Ben Grenda, Cameron Wurf, Will Clarke add a couple of up and comers like Flakemore and Clements (Genesys riders now … »

@brett In Hobart, one day there’ll have to be a Mt Wellington cogal (well that’s the first 20km sorted) I have grand plans for a one-off ride, Hobart, Dunalley, Nubeena – boat transfer to Bruny Island, some gravel roads from North Bruny to ferry, ferry b… »

Further to the Aussie thread here I’m lucky enough to be living in Tassie, so it’s not too hot, our hops, barley and water are excellent and we can brew a beer. If it’s not the mainstream Cascade & Boags, try a 2 Metre tall, a Moo Brew (I do like the… »

Ask anyone from Melbourne or Sydney about Adelaide & you’ll see them roll their eyes before laughing about our interesting use for bank vaults and quiet, deserted streets in the middle of the ‘city’. Narrow your survey field down to cyclists there & while they’ll still carry out the same actions, once they’re done you’ll see those same eyes glaze over as they daydream about what’s widely regarded as some of the best riding terrain in Australia that doesn’t involve a 2hr drive from the city just to get to.
With that in mind @DaccordiRider & I have decided it’s time to wrangle together a Cogal on some of those roads, and just in case catching up with a bunch of blokes (and possibly sheilas) from the internet isn’t enough to tempt you, we’ve decided to hold it the weekend before the Tour Down Under to throw in the chance to watch & possibly ride with the Pros while they’re out here working on their Rule #7 compliance.
The ride itself will start on the city fringe and will head south towards the sea & vines of McLaren Vale, what we’ll be hunting however is Old Willunga Hill to test the legs up same the slope the pros will be fighting for the TDU’s Queen Stage on just 6 days later. Once up top we’ll wind our way back through the picturesque Adelaide Hills before taking in one of the better descents towards the city down Greenhill Rd. All in all we’ll cover 144k’s with just over 1,500m of up (and just as much down).
It wouldn’t be a Cogal without some Malted Recovery Fluid and luckily we’ll be able to rely on the hospitality of the Belgian Beer Café for Mussels, Frites & Ale to fuel the crafting of stories describing a day of riding like lions. For some post Cogal entertainment it’ll be a 2 minute walk to the parklands to find ourselves a spot to watch the pro’s 50k criterium that loops around the east end of Adelaide as the traditional pre cursor to the Tour Down Under kicking off on the following Tuesday.

@Superman Sam The fastest time for the Mt Wellington Challenge is held by Richie Porte (time 49:51 – avg spd 25.43 in 2008 – when he was a triathlete dabbling in cycling). Winners since have been Nathan Earle, Ben Grenda & Campbell Flakemore all of whom… »
@Ron Mt. Wellington & Hobart. Awesome. Tasmania is by far one of the awesomest places I’ve ever visited. If I was an Aussie I’d move there in a second. A few bikes, a VMH, a job that pays the bills…that would be a nice life. There’s always n+1 to be … »
