@sinikl's activity:

The Bike. It is the central tool in pursuit of our craft. A Velominatus meticulously maintains their bicycles and adorns them with the essential, yet minimal, accoutrement. The Rules specify the principles of good taste in configuration and setup of our machines, but within those principles lies almost infinite room for personal taste.It seems in s...

  1. Fun Fact about Felts…. that “double Fs that look like a set of wings” have a little bit at the bottom that they always pick out in a contrasting color (red on my low end Z85) …. that says “V”.  This is usually right near the stem on the TT. I noticed… »

  7. @Beers I’m digging the choices of town bikes having come to this site as a fixed rider. All of those town bike choices sound great to me. I don’t know vintage so I can’t crap on you for selling [period piece bike] but if you’re happy, screw ‘em and ride … »

I’m not sure where this ride falls on the graph of fitness but down towards the bottom, somewhere.There can be a point in every rider’s season where each ride ends the same. FFS, I suck. The unabridged volume of self-loathing is reviewed, cogent chapters reread, aloud, in the bathroom. I’m Too Fat To Climb is a chapter I like to q...

  1. sorry, this was meant to have said: -have had that ‘ah ha’ moment in a different group -totally not having it now that i try to be like you lot. sorry for not being clear »

  2. I have said this in other threads, scattershot, and had not registered til right now but…. -recovering fatguy -still kinda fat even now -started riding with just general ‘bike people about town’ but with a fixed-gear… got skinnier fast. -it became … »

I don’t mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that’s how it comes out. - Bill Hicks That famous quote from the Greatest Comedian Of All Time™ has resonated with me for many years. It became my silent mantra, as I don’t suffer fools gladly and sometimes don’t make much effort to conceal the fact. Lately, I̵...

  1. @PeakInTwoYears  Dude you know how the internet is, all “feelings explode into a vaccum”. Was not trying to get too emo on it, but i do have shitty gear. Mainly i’m just stoked about today but I felt the need to comment because i’m basically sort of That… »

  2. Wow, are you reading my thoughts? I went on my very first club ride today after buying a road bike about a year ago and owning a fixed gear for a year before that. Over that time i have gotten more serious about proper cycling and lost about 40 lbs. So … »

Most great ideas in life are accompanied by an unforeseen consequence of equal or greater magnitude. For instance, no one predicted that the Industrial Revolution would pollute our air and set off climate change on a global scale. Similarly, no one realized that when placing unfathomable computing power in the palm of our hands in the form of smart...

  1. @frank oh, i meant tarck alright. all show and no go, wheels that weigh over 2kg but look cool etc. i have zero illusions about ever going to a velodrome with it (in part because the nearest is a whole state away i have fun with it and it is good trainin… »

  2. I got into road cycling on a fixed gear about 1.5 yrs ago. Fitment was “seems good enough [buys online]”.  Then, I made it worse (better?) by trying to emulate bikes I saw on pedalroom, none of which was for a rider who looked anything like me (about 60 l… »

Jens Voigt is set to retire as we speak, having one final crack at a long break in some race in the Cycling backwater of the USA. Is it fair or fitting that he should go out like this, slipping out the back door with little fanfare, while others have been doing a farewell tour of all the big races, replete with fancy commemorative shoes and a son...

  1. This is thought-provoking.  I am not a “dude of cycling” having come to this sport (road, anyway) in the past year or so, so I have little context here. It sure seems like everyone winning was doping, or probably doping, as the author suggests with anecdo… »

The future is dark, which is the best thing the future can be, I think.- Virginia WoolfOur actions lie on the horizon of the present, in that swirling cloud where fantasy turns into reality. To plan is to cast a shadow into the future, to attempt to lay shape to the unknown. As the present merges with the future, reality will try our plans on for s...

Despite the proclivity towards being all-knowing that comes as a consequence of my being Dutch, the most beautiful things in life are discoveries that come as a result of not knowing.
