Order: Level 4 Velominatus

Sinikl has not set up a V-Profile.

@sinikl's activity:

Most great ideas in life are accompanied by an unforeseen consequence of equal or greater magnitude. For instance, no one predicted that the Industrial Revolution would pollute our air and set off climate change on a global scale. Similarly, no one realized that when placing unfathomable computing power in the palm of our hands in the form of smart...

  1. @frank oh, i meant tarck alright. all show and no go, wheels that weigh over 2kg but look cool etc. i have zero illusions about ever going to a velodrome with it (in part because the nearest is a whole state away i have fun with it and it is good trainin… »

  2. I got into road cycling on a fixed gear about 1.5 yrs ago. Fitment was “seems good enough [buys online]“.  Then, I made it worse (better?) by trying to emulate bikes I saw on pedalroom, none of which was for a rider who looked anything like me (about 60 l… »

Jens Voigt is set to retire as we speak, having one final crack at a long break in some race in the Cycling backwater of the USA. Is it fair or fitting that he should go out like this, slipping out the back door with little fanfare, while others have been doing a farewell tour of all the big races, replete with fancy commemorative shoes and a son...

  1. This is thought-provoking.  I am not a “dude of cycling” having come to this sport (road, anyway) in the past year or so, so I have little context here. It sure seems like everyone winning was doping, or probably doping, as the author suggests with anecdo… »

The future is dark, which is the best thing the future can be, I think.- Virginia WoolfOur actions lie on the horizon of the present, in that swirling cloud where fantasy turns into reality. To plan is to cast a shadow into the future, to attempt to lay shape to the unknown. As the present merges with the future, reality will try our plans on for s...

  1. I’d just like to say that this piece inspired me to go out and ride after my normal tues night partners bailed. Thank you.  The ride was a continual “but you just rode pretty hard [for me] on sunday, dial it back” and “go ahead and get it… owp, too hard… »

  1. The worst “salmoning” event that ever happened to me was a drunk, possibly homeless,  guy with a REAR blinky light (red) on the FRONT of his bike heading towards me.  At first glance I thought I was closing on him super fast because I was actually fast (n… »

The anual international Cogal will be held each year on the birthday of The Prophet, Eddy Merckx – June 17. Community members will have the choice to observe this in their own way; honor him by riding at the front all day, or head out alone to meet the Man with the Hammer with just a bit of food in the jersey and water in the bidon.

    We also encourage community members to organize Cogals on the day of, if possible, or on the nearest weekend day. However you choose to observe Festum Prophetae, make sure you do with with dignity and respect.

  1. I have had several near misses with peds on my fixed gear because it’s well maintained and pretty much silent except for the tires and the (insanely stupidly heavy fashion statement 43mm deep) rims singing. Maybe the squeaky MTB commuters have something g… »

Despite the proclivity towards being all-knowing that comes as a consequence of my being Dutch, the most beautiful things in life are discoveries that come as a result of not knowing. We are quick to answer but slow to think; the easy solution lies at our fingertips while the true mystery lurks just beyond, ready to reveal her secrets if only we a...

  1. OK, first time poster here, recovering fat guy, slow guy, never a “roadie” type guy til November or so. My only sizeable ride to date (not 8 hrs, only 67 mi at ~17 mph, so, slower than you lot) I really enjoyed exactly what is described here. I had no id… »
