@trent_B's activity:

Maybe it’s the milestone of aging that I recently reached. It could be an awareness of the unique foibles of this sport/activity/pastime that I practice. Possibly, I just woke up one day and realised that this is a weird thing for a middle-aged man to be doing. The time for reassessment hit me, involuntarily and without warning. And I’m...

  1. A fine write up @brett. Kudos on finding a balance between disciplines and choosing to fight on »

Ask anyone from Melbourne or Sydney about Adelaide & you’ll see them roll their eyes before laughing about our interesting use for bank vaults and quiet, deserted streets in the middle of the ‘city’. 1. Ask anyone from Melbourne or Sydney about Adelaide & you’ll see them roll their eyes before laughing about our interesting use for bank vaults and quiet, deserted streets in the middle of the ‘city’. Narrow your survey field down to cyclists there & while they’ll still carry out the same actions, once they’re done you’ll see those same eyes glaze over as they daydream about what’s widely regarded as some of the best riding terrain in Australia that doesn’t involve a 2hr drive from the city just to get to.

    With that in mind @DaccordiRider & I have decided it’s time to wrangle together a Cogal on some of those roads, and just in case catching up with a bunch of blokes (and possibly sheilas) from the internet isn’t enough to tempt you, we’ve decided to hold it the weekend before the Tour Down Under to throw in the chance to watch & possibly ride with the Pros while they’re out here working on their Rule #7 compliance.

    The ride itself will start on the city fringe and will head south towards the sea & vines of McLaren Vale, what we’ll be hunting however is Old Willunga Hill to test the legs up same the slope the pros will be fighting for the TDU’s Queen Stage on just 6 days later. Once up top we’ll wind our way back through the picturesque Adelaide Hills before taking in one of the better descents towards the city down Greenhill Rd. All in all we’ll cover 144k’s with just over 1,500m of up (and just as much down).

    It wouldn’t be a Cogal without some Malted Recovery Fluid and luckily we’ll be able to rely on the hospitality of the Belgian Beer Café for Mussels, Frites & Ale to fuel the crafting of stories describing a day of riding like lions. For  some post Cogal entertainment it’ll be a 2 minute walk to the parklands to find ourselves a spot to watch the pro’s 50k criterium that loops around the east end of Adelaide as the traditional pre cursor to the Tour Down Under kicking off on the following Tuesday.
