Rumour apparently that Astana (understandably) won’t start.
- Yates, S
He’s one five of the seven one day races that truly matter* at least once and is talking about ticking the other two (Roubaix and Sanremo) off the list before hanging up the wheels. He’s a Waloon the Flemish love. He’s earned the right to cross the line however he damn well likes.
*Five Monuments + Worlds + his own Nationals, which should matter…

Forecast of a windless weekend, to rob anything of interest- though the women were always only doing laps of The Pearl, the tourist island made even quieter by deciding not to sell alcohol there after all.
I’m all in favour of running the Worlds outside of Europe, obviously. Colombia is probably due another go- or maybe Argentina or Venezuela,…

Lets be honest it’s a bit of a dice roll. Is it still shortened to 106km? The forecast is for no wind.
At least in the Road Race there won’t be camelbaks under skinsuits, though I totally understand why they were doing that (and ice packs) for the TT
Don’t get me wrong, I do like a good sprint and I like that the Worlds cycles through course types to give most riders a chance every few years.
But especially if the heat forces it shortened to just the final circuits, round streets devoid of fans in a country that doesn’t, and will never, care about cycling any more than it cares…
The late climbs have been ironed out this year, which produces this startlist. I think it’s in the “easier to list who isn’t there” territorry for sprinters- no Kittel, surprisingly, and Tinkoff are entirely absent so no Sagan. No Groenewegen is a surprise.
Probably a better race than the overheated crit that is replacing the Worlds this year.…

- Where is she?
I love my white bike with white frame, white for, white stem- but although it originally had white wheels and white bar tape (white saddle stays) I figured I was bascially riding a Ghost Bike and that’s bad juju. So it now has black wheels, blue tyres and blue tape.
And the next time I get a new bike, I’m going colourful. But not lime green and…

Froome’s having a rest day cruising round the “RideLondon Surrey Classic” on Sunday, behind the sportive.
- Adam Yates
- Jon Izagirre Inexhaustible
- Julian Alaphilippe
- Bauke Mollema
- Stevo Cummings
The only rides that get left with a default name are my round town and commuting rides, which are all tagged Private anyway so it’s only me that sees them. The only trace to the outside world is the tick, tick tick of accumulated distance.
Went touring in Belgium and the Netherlands. Went for naming each day’s ride “Stage 1” etc.
Exactly. There was no way that was a “free ride”. Yes Alaphillipe was taking shorter turns, but he was taking turns, and taking them where it mattered- kept the pace high up the little hills. Almost as if they were working to each others strengths. Fully deserved to both be wearing the red numbers the next stage.
The team had written off…
“Hey kid, fancy going hell for fucking leather for hours to no real end?”
“Oh, you can pace me up climbs if you want. I see you brought your climbing bike. And a vented helmet. Cute. Tuck in”
Race organisers were quite right to award joint combativity. Tony’s a ridiculous machine, you’ve got to be crazy to go with him on a day like that.…

Still, at least he didn’t hang onto the back of a motor bike
Are you new here? I mean, there is literally no reason for this site to exist other than caring about this sort of thing. Caring far, far too much about style is the very essence of what this is all about.
