Ride & Book Signing at Rapha Club NYC – May 3

Ride & Book Signing at Rapha Club NYC – May 3

by / / 16 posts

Velominati’s book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple, will be released in the United States on May 5, the day known as Die Congnoscentus or V.V in old Velomiskrit. In support of its impending launch, we’re very excited to announce the first of our book signing events in partnership with Rapha’s New York City flagship store on Saturday, May 3rd.

The event will start with a ride: coffee at 8:30am at the Club, leaving at 9:00am and returning between 2:00pm and 2:30pm. We will ride at an easy Casually Deliberate pace intended for the social aspect of The Ride. I was a bit apprehensive about riding around New York City on the basis that it would be great to make it to the signing in once piece but I am given to understand that the riding from the Meat Packing District is one of New York’s best-kept secrets with beautiful rolling terrain just minutes from town.

The book signing will start at 3:00pm at the Rapha Club; there will be coffee, beer, and wine available as well as cheese and charcuterie platters post-ride. The signing will be an informal event intended as an excuse to bring people together and talk about bikes.

Both Gianni and Frank will be in attendance at the New York event. See you there!

  1. I used the beta Strava route builder to come up with one of several minor variants for this ride, for those coming from abroad.

  2. @xyxax

    Will you and new ride be there? I hope so. This might even be fun.

  3. @Gianni

    yessireebob. New bike and old body will be there. 5 inches of rain yesterday but it’s passed.  It’ll be a gas, gas, gas.

  4. @xyxax

    Outstanding! I’ll be the guy with four extra layers on. Frank is on my old steel bike but sporting another foot of post. I’m getting excited. It might be nice weather.

    A new bike is the best remedy for an old body. Can’t wait.

  6. @Gianni

    @xyxax

    @frank  Holy Merckx, do you realize that the three of your bikes stacked up will be over  5 meters tall and your combined height is over 6.5 meters!! Your are going to look like the triplets of Bellville.

    Seriously I am so bummed to miss this because you boys are going to enjoy each other. David, Gianni is a rare bird and we all know what Frank is. I’m sure there are other fantastic folk showing but the one you need for so many reasons I can’t begin to list is the Buckmiester – Buck post up for this!!

  7. @Rob It’ll be the seat post hall-of-fame.  There are flights every 3 seconds from Florida to NY, sure you can’t make it?

    @Gianni

    @frank

    Hope you brought your extra dark sunnies.  The combination of never worn white V-jersey and socks and the winter skin will be burning retinas for miles around.

    BTW, have you hired a literate person to sign the books for you?

  8. @xyxax the real reason I can’t make it is I’ve done the Nyack ride and now that I don’t do hills anymore there is no way I’d finish…

    P.S. The secret of Frank and Gianni’s relationship is that Gianni is the real author (he’s a college grad, Frank never finished high school) but he’s so shy that Frank has to be the front man.

  9. @Rob I try to think of hills as a series of infinitesimally small flats.  Anyway, I’m not buying it, Mr. 50 km/hr.

    My book signing joke seems harsh in retrospect.  No offense meant.

  10. @xyxax thanks for the vote of confidence. I am so tempted but can’t, any way I’ll be up in July how about a spin around the park or you come up to the hills?

    On slagging Frank I thought what you said was cute and I am the one looking for trouble? Really say a big hi to both Frank and Gianni – he and I go way to far back, thus no secrets and many bad bad things in old triple locked closets.

    Brothers, I am SCREWED.  I made “Family Commitments” over a month ago for this weekend and to make this ride I would have to sacrifice my wife, kids and house plus a bike or two.  As painful and awful as it is for me, I will NOT be there.  PAIN-Fuckin-FUL!  Guess I will have to wait until October to bring Muhammad to the Mountain.

  12. Rob:  When are you up in July?  Maybe we can have a ride then?  You can always stay at my place if you want and xyxax as well.

  13. @Buck Rogers I will be in the mighty Hudson Valley by the 1st and yes we need to get a ride together. Xyxax, you and anyone else who cares to join. I suggest my house this time as you have not had the 10 hills in 100k ride that circles my house (oh and I have not been brave enough to do it since 1996!). Bring  the Mrs. best half and all the Buckettes  too.

    Do I really have to ask what is so important that you just can’t sell a kid or two to get yourself down to the city?? I can’t remember if you met Gianni on a keepers trip but if not you must go. You and he would get on like a pair of MIT frat boys on a geek spring break! Plus you will miss the parade of seat posts which will be one of this centuries iconic bike events and will be talked about still when Buck Rogers IX is an old man!

  14. Frank and Gianni, you represent all of us tomorrow. Don’t spew your drink allover people if they bring up the right or wrong topic during Q and A. And remember… word up!

  15. Got in to NYC late last night. G’rilla was here with Gianni after a cancelled flight had him stranded overnight.

    We are now awaiting breakfast before heading down to Rapha for the ride.

    I am not adjusted to the time zone.

    By now you all are over the GW bridge and well into the joys of the Palisades! I’ve only done this ride once and I was impressed with the quality of the hills on the way up to Nyack. Translation I hope you had a good breakfast and the jet lag has gone with the crossing of the Hudson – have a great day! Can’t wait for the report.
