Tan Hill Inn

Tan Hill Inn

What better way to mark the world’s greatest race visiting ‘God’s Own County’ than to hold that most sacred of events, a Cogal. I’m still working on the precise route, but one thing’s for sure, they’ll be hills a plenty, and along the way we’ll take in some of the actual Stage 1 route, including the ‘Cote de Buttertubs’. I’m also hoping to include an opportunity to take on vital fluids in the highest pub in England, The Tan Hill Inn.

Pre-Cogal espressi will be taken at Caffe Curva in the village of Hawes from 0930 onwards and wheels will be turning at 100V precisely.

// Cogal

  1. Date for this?

  2. If you are going to be in the UK make sure to visit the lake district and follow the route of the Fred Whitton. With 6 mountain passes between 20-33% including the infamous Hardknott pass there are few harder days on the bike

Agreed the lakes are awesome, but the tour isn’t going there……

This Cogal is a celebration of the race visiting Yorkshire, hence the route.

    Cheers,

  5. I’m just finalising the route details at the moment. I’ll post up a Garmin Connect link over the next few days.

Hopefully a few of you will be able to mkae it.

  6. Ok, here’s the route – http://connect.garmin.com/course/6820111

Fingers crossed for a good turn out. See you all on the 4th!

(Remember you need to be logged in to Garmin Connect to see the route)

  7. @936adl That looks awesome and I’d be there if I had the spare holiday time but one question:

Will you bin it if it’s wet?

    Ouch! But entirely fair comment!

no worries though as I’ve booked good weather for the whole weekend!!!

Not still having ‘mares from the London Cogal are you?  If I can arrange to be in Bradford on business on the Thurs I might have a chance of making it but far from certain.

    Hell yeah, i’m scared!

would be great if you could make it.

  12. Nice easy warm up before the first hill then.

  13. Will be doing some of your route for the Coast to Coast ride on Saturday – includes Hardknott, Wrynose and the less well known Limber Hill.

  14. @the Engine

    Hardknott, Wrynose

You are so making those up.

Limber Hill? Is that Lauryn’s less well known sister?

  16. @PeakInTwoYears

My they have some funny names for stuff down South.

See y’all on the Bealach na Ba in August…

    Nope – it’s Benny’s mum…

That would make more sense in the UK!

  19. @936adl It looks awesome, can’t wait, make sure that weather is good!! #smashit

We had Mam Nick on the route at the weekend.  I thought we had some decent hills in Surrey, but they are mere bumps by comparison.

  21. Damn, I’m in Leeds for the Depart from Friday night but sadly cannot get out of work for the Cogal on the Friday morning.  Wish you all the best!

Work colleague did Bealach Na Ba at the weekend.  Applegate is lumpy to say the least… About the only place on the UK you can get an Alp like climb and decent.

Hardknott and Wrynose were used in the Tour of Britain last year. Absolutely pissed it down , as is often common in the Lake District.

Should be a belter of a day! Weather has been ordered!

  23. How did it go?
