Velominati Super Prestige: Men’s Elite Individual Time Trial 2014

If Tony gets a flat or two and loses this time trial, bookies will be jumping off bridges into the Thames. It’s a lock, man, it’s a lock. There, it is now jinxed. You are welcome. Picking second through fifth will take some acumen. Will these be Vuelta riders or does that just hold true for the road race? Tony could have a jour sans. Consult your god.

Twiggo should be in with some speed, he could get lucky, or he could suck. You decide. Time is short and the points are worthy. Delgado at your own risk. A start list is somewhere, I sure can’t find it, FFS!

  1. Faboo continues his downward slide in my estimation. I picked him without checking the start list. OK, my error, but wtf? On reflection he might not even have got a medal, as Dumoulin was only 15 sec behind Martin.

    The RR course seems a lot more hilly than MSR, more than twice the vertical ascent, and more like LBL in my opinion. I would have thought not ideal for Faboo, but it’s the worlds, anything can happen.

  2. Wow, thirty seconds ahead of the Panzerwaggen. Pretty damn impressive ride out of Wiggo.

  3. There are three disputed picks in the queue for Dumoulin; if you disagreed with the mapping, you should have disputed it before the event started it, as we’ve made clear all year; the rule doesn’t change just because you have points at stake.

    Nevertheless, I am considering updating your mappings and awarding the points. HOWEVER, due to the bitching nature of the remarks made with two of the disputes, I am disinclined to feel sympathetic towards your situation. The third was very polite and I’m much more inclined to award the points to that individual.

    The VSP is intended as a fun game and the fact that there are major prizes on offer does not give anyone carte blanche to violate Rule #43, particularly towards the good natured Keepers who spent time in his evening and weekend to map your picks (Brett and Gianni in this case as I was away). We The Keepers do this in our spare time; it is not our responsibility to intuit your intention when you fail to provide a full name or make it otherwise obvious who you mean.

  4. @frank wait a minute… an animated GIF without a cyclist in it?? Does this mean I can desist my refrain from using emoticons??

    But in all seriousness, to all y’all out there, if you’re in the VSP for anything other than a badge, bragging rights, and maybe an apron with your name on it then you’re here for the wrong reasons. The way-over-the-top prizes are just the icing on the cupcake.

  5. @frank

    Normally, I’m anti-gif on this site. But I this one is an exception. How you find or remember these files for future use here is beyond me but this one is very funny. That ‘roo is about to kick the shet out of someone.

    @Geraint

    Do not doubt Spartacus, much. He fucked off right out of both the Tour and the Vuelta just in preparation for the road race. He has won Flanders and that has some climbing. Hopefully he has paid his Swiss teammates to work for him. If he hadn’t biffed into the barriers at the last olympics, Vino would not have won. He is my top pick!

  7. @Gianni

    Sir Twiggins beat Tony soundly. Well done. And a few of you picked him to win also, because of my saying TM was a lock. Chapeau.

    Fixed this one for you, Sir. And thanks for the tip on the RR; can we have a pic of Sparty to headline the WCRR VSP please, just to make sure?

  8. @Gianni

    Damn: is that the Gianni kiss of death for Spartacus’s chances? I suspect he’ll show up this week looking leaner than we’re used to seeing him. There’s little question: when he sets his mind to an objective, he realizes it. That singularity of focus throughout the year on the Men’s RR is pretty frightening. If I’m any of the other would-be contenders, I’m sticking a frame pump between his spokes if I want to hold him back…

    @Mikael Liddy

    @ChrisO I would assume the Aussie decision is related to ensuring Gerro has as much of his OGE break neutralisation squad at hand as possible in the road race.

    Pretty big sacrifice if you’re Luke Durbridge don’t you think?

    And what’s Faboo‘s excuse? I guess he has the RR in his sights. The course is a bit like MSR.

    Depends how much the pay off is from OGE/Gerro/Gerry Ryan should the sniper get up…it’s not like he doesn’t have time on his side to tackle the TT.

    Was I bitchy? Didn’t mean to be. It’s all for fun.

    I’m sorry and I withdraw my dispute.

    Oops…I didn’t see this ’till now. And I just re-disputed. I said please…

  12. @freddy No sweat, you were not rude. Neither was one of the others who has already apologized as well. Stress of the week behind and it being Sunday and sunny out, I’m not as annoyed by it, either.

    I have decided not to award the points though; it’s your responsibility to check your mappings and dispute before the results are posted.

    @Gianni

    My brain is pretty useless for most things except stuff like that. I can do the same thing with Cycling and Star Wars trivia.

    10-4. Lesson learned.
