Velominati Super Prestige: Paris-Roubaix 2015

No one can be happy about Sunday’s weather forecast (except for 95% of the riders and support staff). I am not. Now every Norwegian non-cobble riding specialists has a chance of winning this. I was hoping for day that would separate the Rule #9 riders from everybody else. Bah!

We can take some comfort in knowing our Keepers Tour brothers will be at three different cobbled secteurs, hydrating and yelling with the the locals. Keep an eye out for the V-flag.

There is not much to say about Paris-Roubaix that has not been said. It is the race of the season.

Consult your god. Go with your heart or your head on this. Enter your choices, prepare your frites deep-fryer, the beer selection, assure your family that drinking and swearing on a Sunday morning is part of your religion.

The VSP page has the details and in case anyone forgot, the end of the season could get you here:

  • First place– A custom Jaegher frame, handbuilt in Belgium.
  • Second Place– A Café Roubaix/Velominati wheelset, Chris King hubs, hand built by professional wheelsmith and Velominati Dan Richter.
  • Third Place– A Velominati kit: jersey, bibs, and cap.

Welsh Cakes and Eccles cakes are totally different.  Welsh cakes are like a dryer version of Scotch cakes.  Eccles cakes a package of currents bound in a filo pastry bundle.  Great post ride treat.

Fuck; it’s a brave man that tells a Yorkshireman that his cake are made of filo pastry.

I suspect you’ve been eating some southern gentrified deli version.

    @wiscot

I believe the groups were sorted, not by letter category or distance, but by what newspaper one read on the train: The Daily Telegraph group, the Daily Mail group and the Daily Express group. News of the World readers were shunned.

In that case, my subscription to the Telegraph is money well spent, even if it’s not the paper it once was.

  11. Is it a little strange that the guy who came second last year, won MSR and 7th at Flanders hardly gets mentioned?

Though Kristoff does seem to be in somewhat decent shape..

  13. I want Sir Brad to win because he’s a mod and i’m a scooterist fallen by the wayside (still have my bikes, taken apart, in the basement…. haven’t turned a wrench since my son was born 5 yrs ago… must fix that).

Kristoff is on fire lately and it’s hard for me to wrap my head around guys who can do so many of these long hauls and still be in great form, but I guess that’s what the monuments are all about?

Pulling for Stybar because i almost lost all my front teeth last spring (misread a red light — was looking at the farther of two sets of lights and put myself on my face rather than hit an oncoming car turning left in front of me. instead, i broke my face)

I would love to see Terpstra go again, but I think last year he capitalized on looking around in the break and just got away lucky. I would love to see Van Marcke get something going. I am picking Sagan only because i like him, and I want to see him doing *something* this spring.

Watch G just blow everyone’s doors off and ruin my picks. He’ll certainly work for/with Wiggo but if Brad screws up or mechanicals.punctures (twice?really?) like in the Ronde I can see him going up the road for sure.

BTW are Sky on the suspension bikes again? Looks like Wiggins got rid of his in the Ronde and I can’t find any coverage on why (only so many sus bikes on the team car? help me out).

I may or may not change these picks up to 9 times before the thing locks out because i’m horribly indecisive.

    2. Boom
    3. Wiggins
    4. Stybar

  15. Quietly: I’d be delighted with a Démare win. And the bolder pick would be to put Van Keirsbulck in the top five. Also hoping for a solid Wiggins ride. But this is business…

    VSP PICKS:

  17. I initially had Vanmarke instead of Wiggins but I think Sep struggles in the more open racing – he’s better when he can focus on marking one or two guys – with those two injured he seems all at sea tactically.
