  Whoa! Just saw footage of Froome’s crash yesterday. He as a lucky, lucky bugger. He just missed a concrete post by a baw hair. That could have ended his race and season in one go.

  Super cool to see Chavanel soaking up the well-deserved adulation of fans on his breakaway today. 18 Tours and this is likely his last. The bunch were never going to le him win, but he got a great ride in.

  Yeah, I loved watching Chavanel riding off on his own.

  Sky now find themselves in a very interesting position – I don’t doubt that Froome can get the 51 seconds back, and may take a chunk back on some of his rivals today. However, he wont regain any time on Geraint Thomas. Assuming GT can stick close to the other GC guys once the race hits the mountains, I don’t really see where Froome is going to get that time back off his team mate.

  Add in the day on the cobbles where I expect Geraint to do well and the other ITT…could G become Sky’s leader this year???

  The whole pic mystifies me. Man? Woman? Hipster? What are they doing? Clearly they don't want to get their nice pink trainers wet, but thje bike looks like a decent bit of kit.I hardly think it's a case of dipping one's bike in the Atlantic after having ridden across the US. A bit of shit on the rear tire? That's what grass is for.

  Yup, Sky may have an awkward situation on their hands if GT gets yellow today by almost a minute.

  Definitely an interesting situation, I can't see GT being given anything other than full support at least until Froome has emerged from the pave intact. Rowe will be an important player that day. After that, how knows but if Froome loses more time on the cobbles he may be forced into another long range attack to make up the time.

  I'd love to see Sky backing G over Froome, but even if he is ahead post-Stage 9, I can't see Froome playing second fiddle to anyone. I mean, look at 2012, when he was Wiggo's domestique, and he still attacked. Now he's chasing Title No. 5, I can't see his ego deflating enough to support G, regardless of what the rest of the team do.

  To be fair to Froome I don't think you can accuse him of an over inflated ego.  Certainly not in the context of some of his predecessors.

  I wasn't suggesting Froome would play second fiddle to anyone, more that Sky would be mad not to at least hedge their bets by supporting GT as well until at after Roubaix at least. There's no guarantee that Froome won't lose time there and placing all the eggs in one basket would be disastrous. Barring GT suffering any mishaps, he should reach the mountains with an advantage over Froome.

  Froome comes across as a very different bloke to the brash unknown who let his other half get into a twitter spat with Mrs Wiggins in 2012. Whether or not he's changed enough to follow team orders is another thing.
