Velominati Super Prestige: La Fleche Wallonne 2015

Who doesn’t like a nice, steep, uphill finish after getting your head kicked in for six hours? Not me, assuming I’m not racing. The key feature on this little doozy of a race is the 1.3km long Mur de Huy; doing a wind sprint up this thing has made the world’s best climbers shift into reverse and reduces the winner to a blubbering baboon at the finish line.

We’re looking at some seriously short notice here, folks, so I won’t waste your time writing a witty but rambling scenario of what might happen and how totes amazeballs the prizes for the VSP GC are (*cough* Jaegher *cough* Café Roubaix). Just check out the start list and put your damn picks in already!

The founder of Velominati and curator of The Rules, Frank was born in the Dutch colonies of Minnesota. His boundless physical talents are carefully canceled out by his equally boundless enthusiasm for drinking. Coffee, beer, wine, if it’s in a container, he will enjoy it, a lot of it. He currently lives in Seattle. He loves riding in the rain and scheduling visits with the Man with the Hammer just to be reminded of the privilege it is to feel completely depleted. He holds down a technology job the description of which no-one really understands and his interests outside of Cycling and drinking are Cycling and drinking. As devoted aesthete, the only thing more important to him than riding a bike well is looking good doing it. Frank is co-author along with the other Keepers of the Cog of the popular book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple and also writes a monthly column for the magazine, Cyclist. He is also currently working on the first follow-up to The Rules, tentatively entitled The Hardmen. Email him directly at rouleur@velominati.com.

Well, fack. Guy decides to get drunk on a Tuesday night after 2 hours of full-field futbol on a fake surface to ease his sore ankles and back…and he Delgados the race he was looking forward to watching on Weds. morning. Shitdamnit.

    And that bastard wins it.

At least it is Earth Day.

I've missed this. It's not a proper VSP without you missing every other race. All is right with the world again.

  • Partial Delgado here. Picked up 3 point in the ladies' race and totally missed out on the men's. Nice job.

  • @Steampunk

For a race that’s pretty meh until the fireworks at the very end, the finale was pretty meh.

Agree. I was nodding off watching the replay last night.

I know, but I'm a new man and I'm taking the Delgados in stride, not calling for a recount! I guess that means I've found nirvana and I'm at my optimal n+__ level.

You could be right there. Or maybe its just a little grubby.

I should have had faith in your standards but so many around us are losing their's.
