Velominati Super Prestige: Women’s Elite Road Race 2013

The Azzura previews the course.

Where: Montecatini Terme to Firenze, Italy

When: September 28

How: 140 km including 5 climbing laps in Firenze.

It will most likely be gruppo compatto all the way to Firenze. The bombs start going off on the first of five climbing circuits. The strongest will stay near the front, with each circuit the pretenders will fall away. Sprinters and time trialists should stay at home. What should be left are the cunning, strong and a good descender or two. The finish is after the descent of the 5th climbing circuit so a regrouping of the last hard women could happen. Or not, it could unfold in a completely different way. I can’t help you. The start list can help you. And to add some confusion, here is another start list link. Lady luck or a sacrifice to the correct god may help you. I lament the lack of a ladies Vuelta so we would really know who was going to be there in the end.

If teamwork is helpful here, Australia and Italy have the largest squads. This course should produce an exciting race so find a good streaming video or stand on the side of the road in Firenze and shout your brains out. Bon chance to all.

    @Buck Rogers Loofa

    Okay, I STILL do not know what the fuck a loofa is!  Is that like a rice cake or something.  I do not dare google it at work as I will probably have the IT police confiscating my computer or something.

  • @Buck Rogers I'm tempted to leave it with @Mike_P and "This could go anywhere" but the boring bit is

    LuffaVietnamese luffaVietnamese gourd, or Chinese okra are a genus of tropical and subtropical vines classified in the cucumber (Cucurbitaceae) family. In everyday non-technical usage the name, also spelled loofah, usually refers to the fruit of the two species Luffa aegyptiacaand Luffa acutangula. The fruit of these species is cultivated and eaten as a vegetable. The fruit must be harvested at a young stage of development to be edible. The vegetable is popular in China and Vietnam. When the fruit is fully ripened it is very fibrous. The fully developed fruit is the source of the loofah scrubbing sponge which is used in bathrooms and kitchens as a sponge toolLuffa are not frost-hardy, and require 150 to 200 warm days to mature.

    nah - should have left it with @Mike_P's entry.

    Some people though may well claim that Shredded Wheat and Loofa share flavour and eating characteristics..........

    Ha!  Jesus!  Guess I need to get my mind out of the gutter, but hell, why change now.

    Calling fruity on all those of you that knew what a loofa was, esp you Steamy!  I bet Merckx doesn't know what one is!

    On the other hand the "mind in the gutter" and @Mike_P's "this could go anywhere" do come together - and I've just realised I've put that even further in the gutter with those words - but I'm sure Loofa's probably have "gone anywhere" in a few bath time frolics..............

    All we need is the Assos girl with a loofa in her hand and we will all be "finished" and the story will have a "happy ending", no?
