Velominati Super Prestige: Mens World Road Race Championships 2015

The last time the US hosted a World Championship, it was for the Cyclocross and it was totally badass. But potholes are part of the fun in CX; we’ll have to see how a speeding peloton deals with them.

My Pedalwan Nephew will be roadside watching this weekend in Richmond, and I have to say I hate him a little bit for having that opportunity at such a young age; he better be wearing Velominati gear or I’m disowning him. I also now realize in a face-palm moment that I should have sent him the V-Flag. What day is it? Can I still overnight it? Is that even worth it?

Ok. Back on message. I really hope the police don’t shoot any of the riders, or arrest the peloton for speeding. Assuming that doesn’t happen, I suggest you meditate on the start list, pull a few aces out of your sleeve, and lay down your picks. Good luck!

It would be great justice for all if Sagan won. He’s gone from a spolit brat a couple of years ago to someone who deserves to win now.

But I see it as Matthews vs Kristoff vs Degenkolb. I think Matthews and Kristoff are in the best form, but the Australian team is stronger and I think Matthews has Kristoff’s measure at the moment.

Greipel might be a good bet too if the race stays together.

    VSP PICKS:

    1. Matthews
    2. Kristoff
    3. Degenkolb
    4. P Sagan
    5. P Gilbert

That’s quite a theory; the course is perfect for Gilbert, though, and possibly even a Boonen. I’d have to check the start list as to whether they are racing, but I might put them in my picks just because.

I put Vos in my womens picks just because, and she isn't even racing.

    So yes you should.

  • You!
I wanna take you to a Stybar
I wanna take you to a Stybar
I wanna take you to a Stybar, Stybar, Stybar.

Let's start a war, start a nuclear war,
    At the Stybar, Stybar, Stybar.
    Wow!
    At the Stybar.

Now tell me do ya, a do ya have any money?
I wanna spend all your money,
    At the Stybar, Stybar, Stybar
I've got something to put in you,
I've got something to put in you,
I've got something to put in you,
    At the Stybar, Stybar, Stybar.
    Wow!

You're a superstar, at the Stybar.
You're a superstar, at the Stybar.
Yeah! you're a superstar, at the Stybar.
You're a superstar, at the Stybar.
    Superstar.
    Super, super, superstar

    VSP PICKS:

    Stybar
    Matthews
    Sagan
    Kristoff
    Van Avermaet

  • It's going to be rule 9 all weekend.  Rains are supposed to start at noon today and continue until Sunday night.

I think the Netherlands are empty right now.  Almost everyone I have met is Dutch.

    VSP PICKS:

    1. Degenkolb
    2. Kristoff
    3. Sagan
    4. PhilGil
    5. Van Avermaet
  • An even bigger crapshoot than the women's race. Some of the above might cross the line in the top five or they might not. Pretty much any member of the peloton could win. As long as Kristoff keeps his helmet straight, Sagan doesn't behave like a douche and Degencobble keeps using his special shampoo all will be well.

    VSP PICKS:

    Kristoff
    Sagan
    Michael Matthews
    Degencobble
    Greg van Avermaet
