Velominati Super Prestige: Elite Women’s World Championship ITT 2013

There is something about a time trial that lets you go spelunking in undiscovered caverns of The Cave. Contort your body into the sleekest position you can, make the bike as uncomfortable as possible, and then rev your cardiovascular system up to the anaerobic threshold for as long as possible. Its food for legend.

Being a diesel helps, churning the legs over under sustained effort with little variation in effort. Being the perfect amount of dumb doesn’t hurt either – you have to be just smart enough to be to push yourself to your limits without chasing someone, but not so smart that you realize it would hurt less to go easier. If I was made for a discipline, its this one.

It’s September, the leaves are starting to turn, and the VSP keeps chugging along, this time with the VVomen’s World Championship ITT. Stay tuned for a busy week of events as we’ll be doing both the Road Race and IIT for both the Men and the VVomen.

If you can find the start list, study it. Then the study the stars, tea leaves, and anything else you believe will make your picks not suck.

Good luck.

    For those that care: Emma Pooley dropped out at 7pm on the 20th. I know that VSP uses that fucking hack of a site cyclingnews for startlists, but may I humbly suggest cyclingfever? I’ve had nothing but good luck with start lists, results, past results and whatnot. Not great for live/ streaming coverage (I’d offer up cyclingfans for that. Mostly good results there for streaming).

    Anyway, off to research………

    Thanx

    That’s interesting cos the UCI website is still showing her on the start list.  Got to love the UCI (well maybe not).

  4. Lots of love for Gillow on here.  Do not know her well enough to pick her.

    For those of you picking Vos, per the listed start sheet in comment #1 she is only doing the road race, not the ITT.

    I went through that listed start sheet and wrote down all the names I knew and ended up with 11 riders.  Then I realized that only six that I knew were riding the ITT.  Made it easier to pick!  Total guesses as to order!  I really need to learn more women pro’s!

    Lots of love for Gillow on here. Do not know her well enough to pick her.

    Because her name is an anagram for “Will go”.  Part of my “because I like the name” strategy.

  21. Van Dijk stomped that one…2nd again for the Danish Kiwi and Small beating her teammate Evie Stevie to the bronze by .004 secs. That was a batshit fast womens TT and quite entertaining. Canna wait for Sir Wiggo v Ratpack v Faboo.

  22. @xyxax takes the win in the women’s ITT. Also, please note that we will not be doing a VSP for the Mens ITT, but will do one for both the Women and Mens Road Race. (I cocked it up and forgot the Mens race is tomorrow.)

    Something amiss…i make my score 14…..vilumsen mapped correctly for 2nd but no points credited…?

  25. @Steampunk

    Oh, man! I picked four out the five, but only fifth in the right spot…

    That’s the professor in you:  brilliant but disorganized.

    @Steampunk

    Oh, man! I picked four out the five, but only fifth in the right spot…

    I feel your pain but mine was in second

    Hell, I just plain fucked it up with three correct riders but none in the right order.

  27. @Steampunk

    @Nate

    @Steampunk I would have had four right if my iPhone hadn’t changed “Van Dijk” to “Van Dojo.”

    Awesome! How did Van Dojo do?

    She was DQ’d for wearing a Dutch skinsuit over a Japanese skinsuit.

  28. @Nate

    @Steampunk I would have had four right if my iPhone hadn’t changed “Van Dijk” to “Van Dojo.”

    Is that what happened? I was trying to sort out what the fuck you meant by that!
